Hi,

I have a Fluval 500 Uno Aquarium and the hood has a white plastic attachment above the fluorescent bulb. Is this a lighting reflector or just a heat shield?

I ask as I am planning to by an aluminum light reflector and I didn't want to waste money if the hood has one fitted already.

Most hoods have that already, and it does reflect some light but very little. Getting those alunimum reflectors is well worth the money, I could tell the difference in the amount of light by taking before and after photos.

Cool. That's what I thought. Thanks for the reply. I'll pick one up tomorrow.

It's above the florescent light tube.

Without the reflectors, you actually have less wpg than the tube. With it, you have close to, if not just as much wpg as the tube is.

So if you have a 20w tube, and you don't have reflectors, it might be only 10-15w. But if you have it, you probably have around 19-20w
