Is The Water Perimiters Gone Wrong In My Tank?

Im in the process of putting the water back in my tank so should i take out the same amount of water out again? i took out 50% of water by the way

If you have .50ppm ammonia and do a 50% water change you should now have .25ppm ammonia assuming you have no ammonia in your tap water. Have you checked your tap water to see if you have ammonia, nitrite, and nitrate in you water supply? If you have .5ppm ammonia in your tap water all the water changes in the world won't get it to lower than .5ppm. If you have no ammonia in your tap water I would do a 80-90% water change to take your ammonia levels to only trace amounts as fast as possible. Your goal should be 0 ammonia, 0 nitrite, and under 40ppm nitrate at all times. Until your tank is cycled large water changes everyday is the only way you can come close.

I am thinking of getting the seachem prime which removes all these compounds including ammonia so this should help lower ammonia more when doing water changes

Prime doesn't remove ammonia, it detoxifies ammonia for a short time so it doesn't harm your fish but the bacteria colonies can still metabolize it. It's not a permanent fix.

Is there more then 1 type of seachem prime which does something different because i dont want to confuse myself and buy the wrong one. did a water change today and took out 50% of water out 3 times again. i did one yesterday but i only took out 50% once sand there was no difference

Should i clean the sponge of my filter because my dad telled me one of his friends as hes into fishkeeping said to clean it but im assuming my dad said the wrong thing as im only getting ammonia readings no nitrite spikes

Are you sure because will it take out the good bacteria but my dad said it takes out the dirt not bacteria so is it okay? If it is then this may help :good:

I don't think it'll help but it won't hurt.
