The last day my betta keeps trying to rub against the plants , his active swimming fine and eating well but I’m not sure why his trying itch himself. I’ve added some photos in concerned about his little side fins , do they look as though they’re getting white spots like ich ?

I don’t think it has ich, but the rear half of the body seems to have lighter colour which is concerning as it could be bacterial infection, impossible to tell from the blurry photos.

When you say side fins, I assume you mean pectoral fins. Again, impossible to tell from the photos.

If bacterial infection what is the best treatment to use?

There are different types of bacterial infections, unless we know what it is, we’re only guessing what med to use. Medications available in the UK differ from what are available in US or in Aus. If you could post a close-up photo in focus (easier said than done), members in the UK maybe able to help. Having said that, successful treatment rates aren’t very high as diagnosis by looking at a photo is hit and miss.

You have live plants in there, providing a good environment for the betta. I'd make sure that you keep up with water changes and your GH and pH are within reasonable limits for the bettas. Google "seriously fish betta splendens" if you want to find out more about your betta.

Sorry I couldn’t be more helpful.

In the UK we are limited with meds for bacterial infections. Antibiotics are prescription only - if you can find a vet who will prescribe one.

This leaves us with two meds - Waterlife Myxazin and eSHa 2000. Neither will do much for a severe bacterial infection though.

For now, I would say to watch closely and see if anything obvious develops. Using the wrong med can be harmful, and there's nothing in the photos that couldn't be lighting effects.
