Is My Desk Strong Enough

how thick and far apart are the legs? or is t a square or a circle of all wood.

well you must have one supper sofa table mayby you could tells us where it came from so we could see it for ourselves, also if it is a skinny table there is also the risk of knocking it and your tank and table crashing to the floor! what is your tank on at the moment can't you leave it where it is untill you can afford a stand or have you already set it up on the table and then thought about if it was strong enough!

value city

did you even look at the value city website to see if you could possibly point out which desk/sofa table you have? I'm sure if you took 5 minutes you could maybe find it and then, maybe you could post the link, and then, if you're lucky, someone on this forum could look it up and give you an opinion about whether they think it's a good fit for your aquarium. Comon grimmy, help us help you

here, I did the first step for you http://www.vcf.com/

ok grimmy, i no by now you have tried it as you said you have the tank. did it work?

alright ill keep a close eye on it if i hear something bad ill get the stand thanks guys

might be too late..... Normally when it gets to the point where you can actually hear something, then its pretty bad.... You can hear snapping of wood/metal, you can hear cracking and breaking of glass, you can hear a shatter, you can hear a groan, but when you hear these things you either have like 0-180 seconds to fix it before it crashes and the tank spills water everywhere.

yea i was thinking the same thing, what if you fill it up then it starts to crack. how are you going to siphon out 29g of water before it crashes down? thats gotta be a big hose lol.

Keep a good wet/dry vac handy  or even better pump

lol i would pump it out the window and in to my neighbors window. wouldnt that be a pleasant surprise?

actually, a lot of self-assembly furniture does come with manuals and weight-ratings. it's not as uncommon as you might think. thus i am willing to believe Grimmy when he claims that the table can hold that much weight. if he's telling the truth, then he's saved himself a decent amount of money. if he's lying, then he's only going to hurt himself.

I have a sofa table that is right behind my desk. With it and a book shelf my desk is an office... sort of. Any way... the wheight for it (from the manual) is 550 lbs.
It is heavy and very sturdy! I wouldn't try putting a tank on it though. Those little legs just don't look big enough to take it long term, and I tend to spill water a lot. That's just me though. I do tend to use things other than stands to hold my tanks though. (desk, dresser, mantle, end table, book shelf...) I just tend to put 20g and below on them. My 29g and above have true stands. I did use a cedar chest for a few years, but I added an extra support for it.

yeah my desk shows every single part of it and it talks about how much it can hold, like where the moniter goes it says 50 pounds etc.

I am glad you dont have your tank in my house as if the desk does let go it will make a hell of a mess lol, just make sure u keep a bucket near by so you can save your fish!!!!!!
