Is It Possible?

In my opinion if the water that you are putting into the tank matches that pretty much as you are taking out then no it would not really matter but if the water is not well matched, then the constant changes in temperature, pH, and what not caused by frequent large changes will more then likely do more harm than good. If you want to change the water often then I say to be safe do small water changes hope this helps in some way.

I do a 10-20% water change every other day. That to much lol? its a 10 gallon tank.

Interesting question. I wonder the same thing myself.
I guess it depends on why you are doing the changes.

Most of the time you do water changes to help keep nitrates from getting to high levels that will harm livestock.
Doing a w/c every other day would keep all water stats at diluted and low levels.
So, you would believe that this is a good thing right?
It probably is for the most part. Your fish are getting supplies or fresh water constantly, and they probably love that.

But, there is a possibility that too many water changes can be a bad thing. Extremely low nitrate levels can be a cause of Blue Green Algae.
I believe this may be the reason I has a small battle with BGA.

For the most part water changes are always a good thing imo.
But, there is a delicate balance we are trying to keep in these small ecosystems.

I guess your right, i just checked the old websites i used to look at and they update there requirements to 40 gallons, it used to be 10-20. Thanks lol

:) no problem, they are wonderful fish but from what I can gather they seem very fussy buggers to look after.

ABF are very sedatory fish, one if not two (with a well furnished/ planted water surface) can live in a tank with a 60x30cm footprint, I had two that lived in my 620T without issue. They are semi-social fish and have two distinct wild populations in Africa that are genetically divergent ~65 million years ago if memory serves me right and they have a basic air breathing organ that we often associate with the likes of Betta and Corydoras.

Many online profiles talk of them being tricky to feed, never had a problem myself. As long as they are not kept with boisterous surface feeders, they will happily eat the likes of Tetra Prima; Hikari "baby" floating cichlid pellets, Tetra Doromin/Cichid XL. They are supposed to love live crickets but I've yet to try them, I used to be able to pippette defrosted bloodworm from above his mouth, but my one has become skittish again since his mate was the victim of my Lionhead Cichlid's second brood psycho mode.

Is it possible to do to many water changes?

If you are doing so many WC that you never let enough ammonia to feed the good bacteria you will throw off your cycle. So say you are doing 2 50% WC everyday. The week you miss a WC or 2 your whole cycle will be thrown off and you will have a mini cycle.

But if your are changing 80-90% of the water weekly that's fine. If you are doing a 25% everyday that's fine. It really depends.

So your saying ABF can fit in a 15 gallon tank but not a 10 gallon lol? Had to search the internet for how many Gallons 60X30 was haha!

Good point! :good:

A filter will cycle with amounts of ammonia that our test kits don't even detect. I imagine you'd have to be doing almost constant water changes to prevent a cycle from happening.

So do you guys think i can add 1 more male Spiketail paradise fish and some centerpiece in my tank or is it stocked?
