This week I had the opportunity of introducing a new species of cory to my tanks and I'd like you to meet them now.

Here they are, C. axelrodi:

I think it's a pretty fish, both coming and going:

More fish named for Dr. Herbert Axelrod...that's great! Awesome looking Corys. I've actually been thinking about putting a tank together with the theme of an Axelrod tank. Black Neons, Cardinals and those would look great together.

Thank you, qwikimpss :) I think it would look great too. It's a very clever idea for a theme tank.

I bought these corys on AquaBid from guppymannj, who is the same seller I got my C. aeneus Gold Shoulders from. He is the owner of Laurel Lake Guppies in New Jersey, and a great person to buy fish from. I highly recommend him to anyone looking for fish that are healthy and well cared for. He's not one of those sellers who sends the fish and doesn't want to hear about them after that. He really cares about them, and I think that a very fine thing!

Here's his website:

I also bought some of his C. sarareensis, but they are still too skittish to photograph. I'll start a thread for them in a few days, so please watch for it. :D

How do you like my new corys?

Awesome corys Inch! :D
The pattern on them is very cool
congrats :)
Are you planning on spawning them?

They're beauties!!! I get more jealous of your collection of cories everyday inchworm :p . They had some cories that looked a bit likes these down the LFS yesterday but they were labbeled C.Rabuti (Sp?). Once again i think they are lovely :D
Have you got any C.Barbutus?

Hi Dwarf_Dude :)

I wouldn't be surprised if they did spawn. They have already done it, and if I'm lucky............ :hey:

Here's a link to the thread I bought them from on AquaBid:

It's worth a look if for no other reason than to see what they look like when a real photographer takes a picture of them!

Hi Siamese Fighter05 :)

My cory collection is getting a little out of hand these days. I recently moved and set up two more 55 gallon tanks thinking I could eliminate a lot of small ones. Well, it seems I have a bad case of MTS and little by little the little tanks are going up again. So many corys, so little room in an apartment. :hyper:

If you can get C. rabauti, go for it! They are very nice corys.

No, I never had any barbatus. Actually, while these were once considered corys, they have been reclassified. You will still see them frequently referred to as corys, but they are somewhat different.

love the new corys!!! the picture from the seller makes it look like they have a wider spread of their caudal fin, compared to the length of their bodies. so they look like that in real life?

Hi newfishies :)

That's a good question. :dunno: Of course, my poor pictures don't do them justice, and also, they are not in tip top shape yet after their trip here.

That might also be a picture of a more mature fish, healthy and strong. Mine are still young and have some growing to do.

I will send an email to him and invite him to answer your question. He is a member and posts here on occasion. :D

Hi. I am the seller of the C. axelrodi, in question. Yes, there is a slight "plume" look to the caudal. I will have to give the others a closer look-see to determine if it is a trait they share in common. This specimen was selected at random for the photo and the subject matter has not been manipulated in any way. - Frank/Guppyman®
