Hi,
I am sure i saw someone on here made an indoor pond and cut a hole for perspex window. Do they still hang about on here?
Anyhow i am in the planning and researching stages of making a pond around 250- 300 gallons (uk) to go in a tropical greenhouse. I am not sure what i would stock it with though.
I would defnitely have a double door and screen of window vents so i could have zebra finches perhaps. Also as i work in a nursery i could get hold of some great indoor plants. Anyhow at the moment it is just in planning stages and i plan (if it goes ahead) to start in June 08 (after GCSEs).
I wondered if anyone could post pics or show me what they have done.
Here is a cool link i found on youtube - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GbEKJJuBUxk.

Thanks,
Luke

Well I have been well and truely nudged in this direction.

Most of the details on the build are in the topic Hooli linked too.

Currently the pond is empty now as I sold all the fish from it and need to re-design the sump layout slightly.

Any particular details you were interested in? My pond was just under 100gallons so if your aiming for 2-300 you will need to beef up the build a bit compared to mine.

Feel free to fire away with any questions.

Paul.

Thanks at the momet i am just researching. What did you use to pmp the water. I am looking at using a solar powered or battery powered pond pum as i can't run electrics down to the garden.

I use Aquamax pumps in my tropical sumps aswell as on my outdoor ponds. They might be a bit pricey but well worth the money. I used a 3500 model on that pond.

Solar power and battery power aren't really worth the time. To get a good solar power pump you'll need to spend quite a few hundred, and for a battery powered you'll just be changing batteries twice a day to keep a good flow rate for a tropical pond.

For the cost of a good solar power pump you could buy a normal pump and get a sparky to run electrics to the bottom of your garden. Surely to have a tropical green house you'll need some kind of electrics for the heating as well?

I was going to be using parrafin greenhouse heaters. I see what you mean about electrics it is just my garden is pretty big but i will investigate.
hOW MUCH ARE AQUAMAX PUMPS.
tHANKS,
lUKE

Also if i was to have electrics i could have a heater which would allow me to have an green arowana. I am looking in to making a concrete pond with viewing window as i have seen windows for ponds for sale.
Thanks,
Luke

Well i have got the go ahead for the greenhouse form my parents and now need to speak to our electrician about costs. Anyhow the pond size will be:
If the greenhouse is 6'x8' - Pond = 4' l x 3' w x 3' d and will be stocked with guppies loads of them.
If the greenhouse is 8' x8' - (probably will be) Pond 6' l x 4'wx 3'd and wuill be stocked with plec, aro and any suggestions.
Thanks,
Luke

I was planning on having loads. What else could i put in a pond that size? It doesn't really matter as i am pretty sure i will be getting the 8' x8' greenhouse.
Thanks,
LUKE

I am going to understock the pond.
Guppys was just an idea i think now the smaller pond would have been malawi cichlids but now i am going for the larger pond.
Anyhow for the larger pond stocking would be:
1 x Arowana - after doing research a silver should be alright in this size pond.
3 x Peacock Bass - how much are these and who sells them i have looked online and on wildowoods online shop and can't find them.
1 x Common plec - hope to rehome a large one so i don't have to buy an expensive big un.
6 x redhook silver dollars

If anyone does have any other ideas feel free to put them on here the more ideas the better. I am designing a filtration system at the minute and will post plans later.
This is aimed at CFC and Mark7616: Who built your tanks and how much? I ask as if i did the same thing as CFC with the breeze block base and plywood etc i could have a large glass tank on top. And then insulate sides to help keep heat even more and brick up sides and leave a viewing window in the front. This works out better and easier. As viewing windows are £400 alone.
Thanks,
Luke

Thing with aros in ponds mate is they are crap to look at you need to look at them from side on to really get a good time from them. P.bass are easy enough to find. But even the small pond 6ftx8ft you can keep what you want.

Yeah thats why i am thinking that i will have a tank like CFC'S so i can look in through the front and the top.
The small pond won't be 6 x8 that is the size of the greenhouse.
Who made your tank?
