I'm So Worried

Thank you Lisie. I fear the worst. :( It's always a horrid one to fend off and with their exposure to the columnaris back in April it doesn't look good. Makes me think the disease caused enough damage back then to leave them open to other disease. Despite a great care in the upkeep of their tank the recent high temps and damn snail problem seem to have tipped the balance. I am going to do everything in power to get them through this. :-(

hope you are ok! have a hug!

 Awwww you're all so nice. Thankies.
Just can't believe this has happened after everything these girls have had to go through and the recovery one made from the brink. Seems so unfair on them.
Hopefully all these positive vibes will help them along and let them get past this too. Bless her my red girl has her vertical stripes still on show despite her symptoms and tried to wrap with the other girl earlier. Gotta love that spirit.

Thanks Joby. Sadly it's not looking good. One of the girls I now believe has advanced signs of TB. Her spine is bending although she seems able to straighten herself out still currently. The last fish I had with TB was about 4 months ago and she lived about 6 months after her first diagnosis. Eventually I put her down as she had become very thin and was weakening, poor girl. She was a gourami and was never in contact with my bettas.
Sadly both my current girls came from lfs's and it's quite likely they've had the infection from the start but until the columnaris incident, their good health kept it in check. Until now it would seem. Both are still rather lively and eating, and both are barred up for breeding! Not that I would dream of risking my boys nor of breeding any fish with known TB.
I stick to what I said several months ago. Know where you're bettas come from, who the breeder is etc. And hopefully this won't happen. Just a pity for their sake that they've had to go through this.
Regardless I shall continue to do what I can for them and so long as neither seems distressed will let them continue to enjoy life. Means they defo cannot mix with the new girls when they arrive under any circumstances. *sigh*

Update on these two. Sadly they are losing the fight despite all my attempts. They've prooved strong fighters having survived this long. Both are still alive but I don't expect either to be with me very much longer now. :-( So sad. Had hoped they would be happy and healthy and able to meet all the new arrivals but it seems never to be. *sigh*

Thanks to all the kind words I have had here. I finally gained enough courage to euthanise them both. One had devolped a true fungus aswell as her dropsy, which was eating her body away, and the other had become bad enough that she was losing scales and lying on her side. Both had continued to attempt to eat a little despite their conditions which had held me back all this time but seeing them immobile all today was too much. I feel somewhat aching inside and fear if I start crying I might not stop. :-( Being my sons birthday tomorrow with a great many things to attend to I can't fall down right now. Just wish I didn't feel so bad. I hate euthanising at any moment and having had to watch all my other betta ladies die or be put to sleep by myself back in April made this so very heartbreaking. I can only hope my new girls live a much longer life and die quietly in their sleep at a very old age. *sigh*
Sorry for my continued talking. I'm not expressing myself so well. As some will know betta girls are amongst the favourite of my fish. To lose all of them like this....well I don't how to feel. But I have guests coming tonight so feel it better I express my pain here then upon them later, who simply won't understand the attachment I feel to all my fish.

*Major hugs* I've not had to put one down yet, but I lost 2 of my 3 girls this week, so I sympathise for your loss. *Major Hugs*

So sorry hun that you still had to lose them despite your best efforts and their courage :-( RIP brave little girls

If you feel that you would like some more to add to your new girls when they arrive then just PM me and I'll send you some :D

Awww that's very kind of you Joby. I ought to see how all the new ladies settle really before thinking of adding more. I don't wish to crowd them in. But thanks very much for the offer. If I find there's room for more I will certainly think of you first! My resolve never to buy bettas from an lfs again has not changed and I doubt ever will now. Especially since that was what caused all my girls to get sick in the first place. :-( :grr:
