I'm Nervous!

I find Frontline to be effective but if you want an alternative that is more expensive but even more effective then Stronghold is the stuff to keep the fleas (and ticks) off your cats and dogs. For cleaning out the room the best thing is to vacuum every day concentrating on the edges.

Frontline is weak as, will not be wasting my money on it again! Never heard of Stronghold, probably not available here. Cant use collars on the cats as they have bad skin reactions to them

I do vacuum daily, i am currently vacuuming twice a day.

The Capstar is the best stuff out there, and it is quite expensive, AU$40 every 6 days.

It is just gonna take time, a different spot on treatment than Frontline (have i said i hate it and its useless yet LOL), and perserverance, should have it beat by the end of the week

good luck Alasse, hope you can get on top of it. I don't envy your situation

Where I live we always have issues with fleas.  We ended up removing all carpet from our house and use varying forms of treatment in and around the house.  Each year before the spring rains, we spread granulated sulfur pellets out in the yard t help control the fleas (we live out in the country and have the normal fleas and also the sand fleas that otherwise only normally plague beach areas).

Have you heard or used of Diatomaceous Earth?

Cant rip up the carpets, i rent. Not sure the landlord would be amused.

The spray, tabs for the cats and the double daily vacuum seems to be making a dent, not getting jumped on as much thats for sure

Once we get it under control i will spread some salt around under furniture and along the walls, this drys the fleas out also apparently.

Well, salt is a new one on me. I agree with BiggTexx, Diatomatious Earth is great stuff. Cuts the exoskeleton of insects causing dehydration. Safe around humans and animals, though I wouldn't recommend eating it.
Fleas are a problem here pretty much all year. Ticks are the big worry though.

Keep up with the vacuuming. Several times a day if need be. One of the best ways to combat fleas in the house.

I am looking at getting some D.Earth... this one you can feed to animals also

had some of that D.E. powder when we had a flea infestation, used it the same as the carpet powders you buy. Worked really well - no more fleas! You can also use it for anything - put in small animal bedding, chickens bedding, etc. gets rid of any insect. mites, etc
