I'm Doing It...

Looking good smithrc :) It looks really nice now it has cleared up

Sorry to go off topic here BUT

xNOTLOCx - You've been told countless times by different members that not only is a coral catfish and a foxface to big for your 30gallon but you only have 5lbs of LR. Your tank simply cannot withhold this bioload, if your still going to go ahead with the additions.....Please don't post a thread in a couple of weeks asking for sympathy when your tank crashes and your livestock is dead :/

hmmm... even I've seen what other have said... (locked threads are too tempting not to read)

I've got about 14lbs of LR in that tank.... nearly 3 times as much as you have, in a tank a third of the size...

hmm well that was awhile ago and ive posted a few threads saying that i have lets see 25 pounds now and also ive done research and everypage about foxfaces seems to say they can live in a 30 gallon and plenty others agree, its not like im going out and spending 100's of dollars to buy tons of fish im adding the ones i wanted over a coarse of a year. the foxface and the blue tang im getting are 2 inches big and when they get too big say 4 inches then my lfs made a deal that i can trade my big one in for a small baby again, so hmm i think ive said this many times too in others postings any of my fish that exceed 4 inches or w/e i was told to exchange so nothing big arrises...... so when my tank is up and doing fine then ill post to show you your wrong if your gonna be so negative and rude, i never said im filling my tank with huge fish ,small babies are fine too u kno

Not sure if those are GSP SmirthC. They dont look quite green enough to me though ;). THey're definitely polyps of a similar genus though. Probably very easy to keep if they've survived this long. I'm so jealous of you Brittish guys over here. We dont get LR anywhere NEAR that good looking at shops near me.

That's the best LR I've seen straight from the shop, covered in life, definitely worth waiting a bit longer for!

How deep is the sand bed now?

NOTLOC - You're going to have enormous problems if you go ahead as planned, at best the fish will suffer, at worst the tank will meltdown and you'll have to start from scratch. Either re-plan your stocking of get yourself a tank large enough to house the fish you want.

Having had a bit of a look - I think they are brown star polyps... not sure about the white ones...

That is a completely unethical way to be running a reef! You can't rely on your LFS to take the fish back, don't be so bloody irresponsible and ONLY buy fish which can be housed in your tank indeffinately! I am quite happy to be negative and rude who is quite happy to ignore anyones advice about tank stocking when you clearly don't have the facility to back up overstocking your tank.

i only give advice on fish ive had or know about, and unethical hmm? i know alot of medical places and other places that have reef tanks and if they dont liek the size of a fish they simply trade it or find a new home and get a new one, therfor they can have more small fish instead of big fish, my grandparents own a medical plaza and in one of the buildings is a 400gallon tank wich has been there for years, broke once but its all good now they do the same thing if they want more fish they take some bigger ones out and but a few smaller types in therfore the amount of living space per fish stays they same and they find a new home for him/her..... maybe ill redecide on a foxface but i know blue tangs grow slow and when it gets to 3" or w/e length it can dislike the tank at then i will give him to a freind right down the street with a 75 gallon.... ;) it works out if you can get what im saying 1 large fish or 3 small ones same thing....

xNOTLOCx, how will you know when the Tang needs a bigger tank , When it has infected the rest of your livestock with whitespot etc.

Tangs are open sea fish that need large clear runs to swim in and unfortunatly a 30tank just doesnt do it (Juvinille or Adult)

Also how will you remove it when the time come - Break down the entire system & stress out your entire livestock

IMO a bad idea from the start

JMHO

smithrc - sorry for Highjacking your thread - Where'd you get the 8" PC Compacts from - I have the same tank in the loft and have been promising myself I would turn it in to a NSW Reef Tank soon but never gotten round to it

If the people from the medical centre jump off the cliff, do you jump off right after them?
Do 2 wrongs make a right?

How would you like to be moved around all of the time? As a hobbyiest you should be looking to give all of your livestock the best life you can give them, it's the very least we can do considering they/their ancestors have been stolen from their homes for our own amusement.

The last i'll say about it in this thread, lets concentrate on what looks set to be another great tank for the nano section!

smithrc - It can only be good signs that lots of things are showing themselves so early into the cycle. Shows that the water quality must be pretty good already :) I'd highly reccomend using a small flashlight or your phones light when all lights are out to see what creepy crawlies you can find :S

i see 100's at lights out and only 10 or so in the day, looking good :)
