I'm Doing It...

Looks great so far Smith. You looking to get your LR from maidenhead in woburn? They always seem to me to have good LR in.

:)

hi all...

Fella - yep MH in woburn (thats where the tank came from too ;))

I bought a load of stuff today... decided not to do my usual thing of scrimp, save and make do... so I bought all the lighting while I was there too :)

Slightly over the budget but still, its all money from fish I've sold so where's the harm :)

Right, So far...

1. removed 11W PC and fitted 2x24W PC in its place.

2. sorted out a power head for doing the salt mixing
3. filled the tank with RO
4. added substrate
5. started adding salt!

The filter was leaking slightly after I'd sealed the wireing for the heater, so I've had to re seal it. once that done (tomorrow) I'll hook it up and add some more mix :D

geeez these T5's get hot! 8)

I've got to get some cooling sorted out - and quick... They run fine out of the hood (for 1 hour plus) but in the hood after 20 mins one of the bulbs starts to pulsate... take it out of the hood and it colls down a bit and stops...

Time for a think (not to mention 30 mins with the dremel and a couple of 12v fans...)

Heh, yeah PC bulbs get a bit warm :). I'm debating putting in a couple extra fans on my own :D

well... the tank is up and running now :)

salinity is at 1.024

temp is at 80ºF

But my shop of choice wont sell be any Live Rock... :(

He knows the setup and dosn't want me to rush things... their new batch of rock is still curing so if I were to add it now it it would need a lot of water changes without a skimmer etc - makes sence really :(

no - they only sell cured normally but this shipment came in partially cured as they ran out...

er...your SPECIFIC GRAVITY is at 1.024. Your salinity is probably somewhere between 33 and 35%. SH

Oh, cool. Most LFS' around here charge an extra 50% or more for "cured" rock as opposed to uncured.

right folks... 2x 60mm fans and 30 mins later, we have the latest nano DIY...

Just started the lights up with the fans at 4.5V "cant hear above the PC"

The air coming out of the rear enclosure is warm... thats a good sign. :D

Hello folks...
The Lights were on for about 2 hours last night withought a heat problem :)

The tank temp is sitting stable at 25ºC (about 76ºF)
Specific gravity is at 1.025...

Is there anything i need to check before i add Live Rock?

Is the pH in a reasonable range? If so as long as your filtration, stand, and powerheads are running without any additional modifications to be made I'd go for it.

PH - forgot to add that :)

Its 8.3 - 8.4

I am waiting for a new impellor for the filter as this one is glued together at the moment...

but apart from that I'm good to go....

I'll start working on the LFS to see how the curing is going...
