If I'm not here for a couple of days....

My mom went to our Walmart supercenter today and said there was nothing left... literally no bread, and very very few cans. Apparently everyone thinks it'll be storming for the next two months or so. At least they had plenty of sodas left, so I'll be fine!

That's crazy, I really don't think it's going to come inland that far, but I guess we'll see. Tuesday and I were out last night around 8'ish or so, after her Girl scout meeting and the gas stations were outrageous, it was almost laughable, but ya know..

I just went grocery shopping and it was a pretty usual Friday at Target.

Oh it's definitely coming inland far enough to hit us, at least. The wind is blowing pretty darn hard even now, and it's not due to hit until early tomorrow, with the strongest winds in the afternoon. The eye of the storm isn't going to get here, just the outer regions. I think the part hitting us is only tropical storm force.

Be safe and hang on then. I'm a bit worried for the betta habari Houston club members, several of them are staying. Wally has family trapped down there as well. They're saying it will hit Port Charles the worst, that's very near to where Jim lives, he evacuated fortunately.

By the way, are you still planning to come up in two weeks? If so, save some of that extra cash of yours because I suspect we'll have some real beauties from Singapore :hey:

Also, stirring the bigger tanks will help a lot. My great preperation for all of this is an extra bottle of dechlorinator in case the electricity goes out by chance. :look:

Yep, I'm still planning to come, but I'm going to *try* to keep my betta buying to a minimum... I'll be looking specifically for a nice copper CT if I can find one for the CT plakat project, and of course the wilds :hey:

I hope the Houston club members will all be ok... let us know if you find out how they are after the storm has passed.

Like I said, we've got a generator so I'm not expecting to have much of a problem with aerating the tanks, but I have thought of stirring them if I see Aristotle or Marie breathing hard. Marie is particularly sensitive about that, it seems, because once there was a kink in the tubing to my canister filter and the current wasn't as strong and she was obviously having more trouble breathing than normal. If I accidentally stir up the sand during water changes she'll have coughing fits, too :/

Luckily the vast majority of my fish are anabantoids and have no problem gulping air from the surface. Along with the bettas I also have a leopard ctenopoma, dwarf gourami, and senegal bichir who gulp air... it's just the oscar, midas hybrid, and angels I'm worried about

I thought you were getting the wilds next week! Will they be ok?

It may be a couple more weeks, William emailed me asking if I could wait so he can sex them better... or it may be next week, I dunno!
Apparently he has two spawns going and asked if I wanted some of the 6 month olds or the 2 months olds... I opted for the 6 months olds, since I'm guessing he can sex those better? Anyway, once he mails me back we'll see.
The wilds I was refering to in that post were the ones going to the betta show, not the B. albimarginata... I was saying that I may not be able to resist the temptation of other species, especially if there will be simplex there :p

Well, now, really, don't be too stern with yourself. After all, after the harrowing ordeal of a hurricane - or really, even the threat of a hurricane - don't you think that you deserve to cheer yourself up with a couple li'l guys?

Fingers crossed in hopes all will go well either way. Good luck Synirr, hope you wont have too much power loss.

Welp, it was a long night, but we survived. They say we might not have power for 4 or 5 more days though, a lot of power lines went down. We're running on our generator at the moment. There's no damage to our house or anything, just 3-4 downed trees in our pasture and a yard COVERED in small limbs. The funny thing is, during the worst part of the storm this morning when we were getting 50+mph winds, there was a hummingbird on our hummingbird feeder, getting blown all over the place and hanging on for dear life getting a drink! The cows didn't act like anything was wrong either and were having a party eating the leaves off the downed trees.

Good to hear Synirr :)
But when you say
[QUOTESynirr, Today, 10:21 AM]yard COVERED in small limbs.[/QUOTE]
What exactly do you mean?
