idea for anchoring plants

maybe you could get pieces of slate or another rock and drill holes in the middle but only thin pieces but not too thin. what do you think pick away at it if you must
 
the only possible problem i could see here is if the stem grows too large for the hole, it might break and then the plant would be floating and the roots would rot.

also, slates usually have sharp edges so the stem might break anyway...

don't think it's such a good idea
 
I think that would be a good idea for plastic plants to stop them floating, but i wouldn't do it with live plants for the reason yves9 stated.
