mods..........should arrange certain days and times for different subjects to be taken up in the live chat??? and post a thread or announcement to state what it's about and when it gunna happen, ive just seen it on another forum and it seems to be working.

I reckon that's a good ideer, 'cept that it's 8:22 pm here by me, and 2:22 am by you. Time zones add a bit of a glitch to it, but I do like the idea, and would like to see the chat utilized more.

Or just state the time in GMT. Then everyone can adjust according to where they are.

For instance, Tolak you'd be GMT-6hrs.

I don't get into chat very often but I guess a specific topic each day would possibly get more people in there. The time difference though could present a problem. If you do it at say 7:00 EST, then it's midnight in the UK and 4:00 on the west coast of the US. Doing it at 7 in the Uk would put it at 2 EST and 11 PST. In either case that could limit participants from certain time zones. Great idea if logistics can be worked out.

I tried this once in the 'olden days' with Navarre and it was difficult to coordinate. SH

just announce it in line with the different time zones, afterall out of just over 32,000 members its surely worth a try,
:good:

Last year some time there was a "livebearer chat" day and others. Not sure how well it went though.

I do like the thought, but the trouble is coordination as SH said. We did try having an expert in, who answered questions selected from a lot of entries but it was quite one dimensional.

Chat would work much better if more people would allow a little time before leaving. Many people join and leave within a minute (often without saying anything). Many of the regulars lurk. We are about, but often just not focusing on the chat window at that time (I often am in chat while doing the reef tests or water changes).

One potential help would be to say the names of a few of the people in there and wait 5-10 minutes. That should give the members a nudge. :)

Whilst I do think that topics in chat are a good idea (ignoring the time zone problems), I for example, have no interest whatsoever in live bearers. I also suspect that most of the regulars wouldn't either. Therefore, you would have a bunch of regulars who would be bored out of their head for the hour or so that the particular topic was discussed.

Much better if, as Andy says, the people that come into chat on a more ad-hoc basis actually stay and give the people in there already a chance to say hello. I often join when I get home from work yet might not be active for half hour or so.

So, if you join and there are people there actually say hello and join in rather than running away again. If you want to talk about something in particular then start talking about it.
