I Never Wanted A Betta

Nice looking little tank, the substrate seems to match well with the small decoration with the arches.

Im currently o nthe lookout for a nice Betta, don't want to rush into getting 1 as I'd like it to be the perfect 1 in my opinion, hope that doesnt sound too weird

Do they need anything in particular in a tank to keep them happy?

Sean W. that tank is really cute =]

[and I love that you're watching the big bang theory lol]

waiting for the right one isnt weird =]

at risk of hijacking this thread lol

bettas need lots of plants to swim round and sit on [anubias id perfect for this] and try and keep the flow low to stop them from being blown around becuase of their long fins, other than that i dont think there is much else =]

I really wanna put my betta tank on my desk, but hubby wont let me :(

Very cute little tank though. I agree that maybe another plant or two wouldn't go amiss, but otherwise very cute - and the dark decor offsets his bright colour very well! :)

i have to get myself a betta, i usually used to have one, ad i dont want it in my either of my community tanks, maybe it could go in the paludarium...

Although I think he should have a bigger tank (yes, I'm member of the 5 gallons brigade), it could be a good little tank if kitted out right.

Both the frog and the betta will want more plants and hiding places. It makes them harder to find at times but IMO, we should keep fish in a natural environment that makes them feel safe. This means live or silk plants for bettas.

A heater is also necessary. Bettas should be kept up more towards the 26-27 celicus range (I think that's like 76-80F or something) and need steady temperature. Even in a generally warm room the temperature will go up and down quite a bit during the day and night. A little 10-25W heater should do the trick.

Also, how are the ammonia and nitrite levels looking? You didn't say whether you cycled the tank before you added him.

With the frog, how are you feeding? They don't eat flakes or pellets (at least, most don't and they've not got the right balance of nutrients). A good frog diet food and things like bloodworms are ideal and most frogs need to be hand fed or trained to go to the same place every day for food. Just a heads up if you didn't know.

Good luck and let us know how you get on with your little guys.

head desk?

i also was wondering what that means...

It is what someone says when they are metaphorically banging their head on the desk out of frustration.

The issue is probably the size of the tank. It is very small.

i have seen way worse for bettas, infact i have a 2 litre betta tank, but i was using it to culture inforsuria (spellcheck? lol)

Fairly certain in a natural environment temperature fluctuates.

but not as much as a 5 gallon tank would, a large body of water usually takes a long time to warm up and cool down, though i would suppose that if the body of water is shallow it would fluctuate easier.

i see your watching the Big Bang Theory on the pc.. great show i love it.. (sorry a bit off topic)

Had to commend on the TV show as well, one of my favorites, haha...

I'm okay with a 2.5 (Pretty sure you can take care of it fine with changes and whanot), but I never personally go under a 5. But you do what you do, let's just...not start something over the size. If you can upgrade, upgrade. If you can't, meh, just take care of him well.

I also recommend more plants, like 2-4. Preferably silk/live.

And where did you hear the bettas are boring from (I mean, out of curiousity I want to know)? I hear it often too, but more often from the people who don't know ahem. This is what more size does, the end, glad you're content with him :)
