so i had a 2.5 gallon tank sitting around not doing anything, it was my hospital tank and it was just running and running with nothing in it, so i decided to put it on my computer desk.

the first thing i didnt like about the tank was the lighting, it used a little dinky night light bulb that just wasnt cutting it, so i went to the hard ware store, got a fixture and then the fish store and get a 50/50 blue/white florecent light and with a little elboe grease a dremel tool and a little time i got it to work perfectly...

so i got it set up on my desk, and it came time to decide what fish to get...

i know i didnt want a few tetras, that would just be to boring, and i knew this tank is perfect for a betta, but from my understanding they are pretty boring and dont do much. but since i couldnt find anything that had good color and that was small enough i went with a betta... and these lil fish are freakin cool man. they do a lot more than i thought they did and kinda have a little bit of a personality. i got a dwarf frog too... hes a hell of a lot more boring than my betta...

anyway, just thought id share...

any thoughts?

Completely agree. Betta's have BIG character. Very interactive with their owners. Almost fearless. Almost all will feed from fingers. Awesome fish. Pity about the silly long fins IMO, as many people don't take them seriously.

wouldnt say it was perfect for a betta should be 5 gal idealy, with heater and filter

I personally think bettas are so cool! They all have great personalities.
I think a lot of people dont like them, and they experience them first hand and that changes their feelings about them. IMO a great little fish!

Bettas are really what got me hooked on this hobby 13 years ago. A gold fish was my first but the betta is what did it for me. They are a big fish in a little body. You got a love the betta.

Watch out they become addictive. I had 8 at one time. Now I have just one. I will always have a betta I can't seem to live with out one. Welcome to the club.

I always said that I would never have a betta, i wanted something different

that was until i got one =] now I have 7 males and 4 females, I have to stop myself!

i loved my lil cloud :( but ive decided to not get anouther due to dropsy....i dont want to watch anouther suffer it! i know its not "common" but still, i do like bettas...my little guy jumped out the water for his food, so cool :hyper:

on a side note can we have a picture?

yeah, ive heard people say that bettas are boring but i dont know where that comes from. if you give them a nice tank design they'll constantly be exploring and patrolling their territory. and as someone else said, they seem fearless at times. mine will sometimes bite my hand over and over if i stick it in the tank  . he's a beast.

dwarf frogs, on the other hand, are more of a novelty than anything else. i have 3 right now and they're really just a pain in the #16#####. i wish i would've just gotten 1. they hide most of the time, and they seem to be oblivious of their surroundings. are they even still around in nature? i'll be surprised if they havent been eliminated yet through natural selection. keeping them fed in a community tank is the worst.
