I Need To Kill A Fish...

All this "faffing" about is far crueler than doing the deed... either throw it on a hard floor, or flush it down the toilet - it would cause less suffering than asking on the internet ! (for both the fish and YOU !)

Sorry to sound so cold, but this is all part of the hobby...

Ever thought about buying a trout priest, most angling stores sell them.
It's got to be better than pickling a fish in vodka.

Yes. Don't worry I will get a better form of 'death' in (I will use clove oil in the future) but as you can see from the previous posts - I had to kill him there and then and I didn't have anything other than vodka. And don't say anything like 'well you could of cut his head off' - because I couldn't bring myself to do that --- i've done it now and it's over and don't worry in the future I will not use vodka (do you think I liked what I saw last night)

So sorry to hear what happened, I know how it feels i've had to do it myself. Don’t beat yourself up over it at least you cared enough to put it out of its pain rather than leave it to suffer. I personally think you did the only option open to you I couldn't cut the head of one of my fish either and I think the other methods i.e. flushing down loo are very cruel (and I thought illegal) or freezing are far worse.

Take care.

Sorry to hear about all your troubles with your fish :-( it's very hard if you haven't done this before.

But I strongly suggest you buy yourself a small bottle of clove oil for possible (but hopefully not!) future use.
It's only a couple of ££'s and almost every chemist will have some. If you can't see it on the shelf, just ask at the counter.

If you do have to euthanize a fish in future, take a clean container (plastic with lid is best) mix a few drops of clove oil in some tank water and shake very well for a minute or so. This mixes the oil with the water and makes the water look a bit milky. Then place the fish in the container and close lid (to prevent possible jumping). Fish should quite quickly go to sleep and then just die. The process takes no more than a few minutes.

To be safe, place container in freezer and then dispose of (ice cube) the next day.

:rip: I am so sorry for your loss, it is hard when you lose somthing thats important to you like a pet. :(

and for all you "get a grip its just a fish" other people get a life!
I am sure that when you pop your clogs you dont fancy your family putting you out with the rubbish...have some tact and think before you type ....its called COMPASSION

Just hit them on the head. I do this using a "priest" when i fish for trout & salmon. Very quick, over before the fish knows what hit it, whoops, sorry! :X

well when u think about it it doesnt matter what way the fish dies
i dont see the point in trying to kill the fish humainly
when humans die we die of cancer wich can be VERY painful same applies to old age in fish

sorry for your loss

yeah but there's still no need for it to be harsh if it can be avoided.
