im shocked any of u would even think of killin a bird weather in jest or not its gotta eat! would u think of doin the same if its a cat???

i think its a gorg lookin bird.

and this proves that just because theres water in there an its a good deepth dosnt mean things wont try to eat it!!

learn from it an improve ur defence!

**ok i know iv over reacted but i hate any thoughts of violence to animals**
If i caught a cat doing that, yes i would!

If a dog has fleas, would you kill them? You wouldnt de-flea a wild dog, but you would your own.

Therefore you cant protect all fish, but you will your own.

but there are better ways of protecting ur fish without killin another animal in the prosses... no i dont own a dog but i have cats... they have never had fleas because they always have an uptodate flea color on...

and fleas aint animals they are insects... couldnt care less if u killed insects ewwww creapy

I agree with you here, nightlife - well, not on the not joking about it part, cause I did *grin*.

But there are many ways to control the situation without causing harm to the heron. We have encroached mightily on their natural territories, and we owe it to them to find solutions that do not include killing them. Other options may be more of a bother, or more expensive, but they are what we owe the natural world if we want it to remain functional for both any animals and ourselves.

*gets off of soapbox and ducks, anticipating the barrage of tomatoes that is sure to come...*

put some dead fish out with rat poison in them or alkazelter

i think i know how solve the heron problem, you need an electonic signal generator, kind of like a pest removal, what you need to do is research herons and find out there audiorty levels, then buy or make a transmiter that will scare them

you can get a medium sized dog in the yard to chase the heron away

that's all you need

Its all about protecting your own animals.

If something was harming my pets, i'd make sure it never happens again.

Hi psgill00 :)

If you were to trap or catch this bird, is there a local authority who would take it away?

Surely there must be something, short of killing it, that can be done. :dunno:

oh yeah what a brill idea then not only would a bird suffer, but any other animal that came along as well be it dog cat or hedghog, sounds great to me :hyper:

not

the fish should be able to move a lot faster than the dog or you could get a bear to fight off the dog

Herons are a beautiful bird when you have stoped them eating your fish, the best way is to cover the pond in netting but thats unsightly so I use fishing line. String a row every foot across the pond and keep in taught and when they come and wade around they keep hitting the fishing line and get very destressed and fly away ASAP. :)

then along comes a hedgehog and beats the bear who had the dog for lunch, who had chased off the rat, who gave the porcupine rabies, who stole the cougers hat, who swam to the other side of the pond to eat the fish, who were eating the radioactive snails, who were fighting the alien kung fu algaes who came from the cities water supply, where the Herron started this long complicated attack on the human mind. ( Did I foget anything :/ ) :hyper: :p

Sorry I've most likly had too much caffinee again. I'm going back to my padded room with the self hugging jacket again. Maybe the nurse will bring me my meds...NURSE!!!!!

Its easy to solve, we have a fake heron up by the pond. The real ones wont come near it now :D

(shame though, they are fantastic looking birds!)
