I.e. Vs Firefox

just got FF and I love it, it's much faster and I love the pimpzilla skin 8) will see how I go in a few weeks of using it

Definatly FireFox for me. While I really hate this 'try and not use Microsoft!' thing my other half has going on, I love him for installing FireFox :p The pop-up blocker in it is fantastic, and I just can't live without the multiple tabs in one window anymore. I really hate going back to IE for those 2 reasons.

IE7 is just about the ugliest piece of software I've ever seen, but you have to use it if you want to use IE and get some of the features of Firefox. I use Macs at home (browse with Safari, Camino or Firefox if I need something else), but I use Firefox at work when I'm not using some Microsoft product that requires IE (Virtual Server, Sharepoint, etc...).
total agree very very ugly

And the bad thing is, at this point, Vista looks like it could be just as ugly. Not that I care for my computers at home, because I won't use it, but I'll have to at work eventually. I just hope Microsoft really cleans up the UI to make it cleaner and more appealing before Vista comes out in December... or January... or March :)

Here i have something which will speed up your Firefox.

It works trust me !!!

1.Type "about:config" into the address bar and hit return. Scroll down and look for the following entries:

network.http.pipelining
network.http.proxy.pipelining
network.http.pipelining.maxrequests

Normally the browser will make one request to a web page at a time. When you enable pipelining it will make several at once, which really speeds up page loading.

2. Alter the entries as follows:

Set "network.http.pipelining" to "true"

Set "network.http.proxy.pipelining" to "true"

Set "network.http.pipelining.maxrequests" to some number like 30. This means it will make 30 requests at once.

3. Lastly right-click anywhere and select New-> Integer. Name it "nglayout.initialpaint.delay" and set its value to "0". This value is the amount of time the browser waits before it acts on information it recieves.

Just been reading a report in PC Pro and apparently Opera 9 beats both FF & IE on both speed and security, does nobody use it?

Arfie

ive had this done a while so i cant really complain but tbh this kind of thing is scewwing servers left right and center to i mean normally you take 5-6 requestsits fine but this kind of thing really puts a strain on them as well as draining the bandwidth id change mine back but its just toodamn fast i dont wanna :p

Not the most recent Opera - but I tried it a couple of years back and didn't like it either.

Apparently Opera is coming to the DS to allow wireless touch screen browsing fromt hat. If it does, I'll certainly check it out, and if it is any god, I may convert. For now I am more than happy with FF (though I am following Erised's other half's anti-M$ quest).

Doesn't Opera cost money, or at least there's a version that you have to pay for?

I use FF for its security and better feautures.. i like the tabs and the bookmarks at the top. Now i must find a new skin lol..

I think it used to cost something (there was a free version with ads). Anyway, to be fair, you CAN get Internet Explorer 7, which has enhanced security (it' supposed to be very good), tabs, and that kinda thing. Like I said earlier though, it's ugly, and especially if you skin Firefox, you won't like the look.
