Huge 900g Tank Project

and finally the smaller Liearius pictus taking a long swim, not often you see a 2 foot catfish get into full flow in a home aquarium

Hmmm they all look lost lol. Is that a lima in there aswell???? I think the rays will love it in there.

There's two lima's in there, they look tiny

Rays will be added in a couple of weeks when the filter has matured a bit, i put all the mature media from the pond filter on my 200g into the sump to get things going but i'm going to play it cautious as its a lot of water to be doing big water changes on if the ammonia or nitrite levels spike.

That's incredible! I wish I could have something like that  It's looking great, can't wait for some SLR pics!

Are you planning any other deco? More driftwood, large rocks etc.?

That looks even worse with water in than it did empty! ;)

I still say it should have been salt. Could have done some lovely things with it then, such as bumblebee groupers and leopard morays, not to mention a "pride" of volitans (though obviously not with the bumblebee grouper  )

Good to see the Leirus getting some room. Could be a chance for a quick growth spurt from her (and the aro). When we come down next I have another trick I want to try with pictures. Since the flash usually messes up pictures by reflecting off the glass, I was going to put the smaller camera inside the tank and take pics. Should get some nicer ones then.

Looking ace, much easier to see properly with water in...
I didnt realise you had two Leirus. Where was the other kept, not in the 200g I presume?

Yep, off to the garden center later today to get some big river cobbles for the tank and i've got a huge lump of bogwood from one of my other tanks to go in as a center piece, as i've got to get in the tank to position them i'm going to do the substrate and all the decore in one hit later today to avoid scaring the fish too much. I'll probably pick up a few more pieces of driftwood off the beach next time i'm in Dorset at the end of the month as well, and i'll get a few more plastic plants to attach to the background to hide the joins as well at some point.

I couldnt afford the second mortgage to buy the salt and all the gizmos needed to run a saltwater tank this size, though the bumble bee grouper is a very tempting idea

Interesting idea for the pictures, have to see if it works.

The second Liearius was PaulMTS's, when he sold the rest of his fish from his 200g it was the only one that didnt go so he gave it to me to see if it would get along with my one. Its been squashed into a 80g for the last month while i got the new tank ready, i'm still not sure if i will keep it as they have been squabbling for the last 24 hours since i introduced them and as my original one is much larger the smaller one is taking a bit of a beating, but they may calm down and just get on with it after a few days, 48 square feet is a lot of tank to share.

Hey, you could get 10,000 Neon in there!

On a more serious note, why are you putting the substrate in at this stage? Why did you not put it in before the water etc?

Why did that bloom clear up??

Andy

The only reason i'm putting the substrate in now is because wicks didnt have any in stock when i went last week and i desperately needed to move some fish around in the fishroom to solve some problems so i had to get the tank running ASAP. It would have been easier to add it dry but its not a huge problem to add it now, just means the water will cloud a bit for a few hours as the fine particals settle.

The bloom just cleared up on its own, its quite normal to get bacterial blooms when you add a lot of mature filter media to a new tank as all the displaced bacteria gets blown into the water column, within 24 hours it all beds back down again and the tank returns to normal.

That is good mate.

Now all you need is a lazyboy chair i the middle of the room so you can sit and watch the tank :D while listening to your favourite songs :D

Thats awesome CFC, good job :good:

How big is the silver now? Still not stopped growing?

I bet it's going to be one beast of a fish when setteled in this tank.

Last time i measured the silver was around 27 inches long and at still less than 2 years old should have pleanty of growing to do yet, i'm expecting it to reach at least 3 foot long within the next 2 years.

Awwwwww shame my old lad is getting bullied a bit, nothing hes not used to though! :p
