I keep my tank with 1 teaspoon of salt per gallon... IS this ok for a future pleco? if not... Do you have any recommendations for a salt tolerant plecostomas?

Dont use salt with plecs, they come from areas which dont have salt and it doesnt do them any good in the long term.

Why are you using salt in a FW tank anyway? Salt is ok in some cases as a medication but there is no reason to add salt as a routine measure in your tank unless it is a brackish tank.

I agree with CFC, and also you shouldn't realy be keeping plecs with goldfish or at least the majority of plecs- you should read the salt article on the top of this section about catfish/plecs and salt and, basically, its a no-no.

Using salt is a big NO!!! basically you are building up the layer of mucas on the fish to protect it from parasites, all very well but it means the fish will have very little natural defence against parasites or other infections when the time comes that it is present, meaning you will almost certainly loose your fish very quickly. Never use salt unless you have whitespot or any other external parasites in your tank.

And as already said, plecs + salt = prolonged painful death.
