As above can you estimate how much money do you think you have spent on your fish since starting?

Include all equipment, tanks, meds, food, fish.

Its pretty easy for me since Ive only just started.

£450 plus about £20-£25 a month I think on Electric.

You mean not just the fish but all corals, plants, inverts, the equipment, AND upkeep too? NO WAY I'M TELLING...my wife might read this!

from the beginning... probably 500+ dollars... but that is including presents etc etc hahaha

I agree to all the above... I think my initial start-up costs were about $600-$800, including tank, cabinet, substrate, test kit, filters, etc. (but don't tell my wife, she thinks it was about $350.)

I thought this thread was in regards to how much you spend on the fish for Christmas. If you're interested: I set the limit at one present, or no more than $50... per specie.

I've got $1700 USD in my lights, the 210 gallon tank and stand was $1300. My skimmer was $250...that's not even the whole of it just for this one tank. I've got a rainbow brain coral that I got on sale for $125 and that's a single coral. My yellow tang was $45. My live rock alone was hundreds of dollars. And that's just the one tank. I've been doing this for a long time. There was a time I had 9 tanks at the same time. Really if I go back for my entire life of doing this I couldn't calculate it. Just the last 10 years alone comes to...no...no...not telling!

Oh god, well over a grand this year, probably nearer two actually, not even including water and electric. Breaking it down:

About £400 on new tanks (my original 65l and my fluval roma 200), £300 on second hand tanks (240l, 125l and a 20l), £200 on external & internal filters, air pumps, heaters etc, £150 on a co2 kit, another £200 on plants and ferts etc, and then about £150 on fish... £100 at least on wood :S Then say £250 on other bits and pieces, food, filter media, meds, sand, test kits, hoses etc..

So yea, a fair bit. I reckon there must be stuff I have forgotten so lets say £2k this year.

I have blagged two free tanks and a free pond too...

Oh my god, no wonder I am so skint!

I'll be around a good £700 -800 in the first 3 months.

New filter 120, Fish tank 150, Heater 50, Fish 50, Plants 40, wood - plant food- Others 250.

It goes on and on and on and on, Feel like I should have put money into my carr ¬.¬

Jeez oh, over the years if I had kept all the money I have spent on fish tanks alone, I could probably afford to put a down payment on an other house!

As for fish..... I'm not even going to go there

You mean not just the fish but all corals, plants, inverts, the equipment, AND upkeep too? NO WAY I'M TELLING...my wife might read this!

rofl ......... gawd knows how much we have spent ,, it cos me 25 quid yesterday on plants n stuff hahaha .. bank statements have more fish shop debits than any other thats all im saying LOL

Oooh, far less than I dreaded! Just added up my spending from my main fish supply shops, and since the end of August, when I started, I've spent £1061. So probably about £1200 including other random places. I did start off with a bad habit of buying fish I liked, then finding something I liked more, so I have rehomed, for free, probably £100-200 worth of livestock.

Hmmm...as I thought it was much more, maybe I should go buy some more stuff...

Funny topic, I bet we all have spent more than we will admit. I just set up a free 20 gallon long tank in saltwater, thought I could do it relatively cheap....Wrong My wife saw it and asked how much have you spent, all I said was the tank was free looking up

I now have corals and 4 T-5 lights and on and on. It is very addictive.

I started this back in August, so about 4 months and where am I at...
125 gallon tank - $250
2x 75 gallon tanks - $120 each ($240)
35g tank ( free )
Glass Canopy for 6 foot tank - $75
Glass Canopy for 4 foot tank -$50
2x 36" T8 lights - $160
1x 48" T8 Light - $100
Wood and decal for two tanks for stands - $250
3x Aquaclear 110's - $90 each ($270)
3x Eheim 2217 Canisters [new] - $200 each ($600)
50 gallon tank/stand/lights/Eheim 2217 used - $200
3x Eheim Pro2 2028 canisters used - $100 each (300)
4x Jager TruTemp 300w heaters - $36 each ($144)
Live plants - ~$120
Fake plants - ~$130
Aquarium Sand/fine gravel/play sand - ~$100
Special decorations - ~$300
The fish themselves ~$500

This isnt all of it... and I'm already at $3800 before meds, food, and a 4foot stand and a 3 foot stand since I forgot how much they cost. I'm working on stripping down the 50g and hopefully selling it for what I paid for it so I can get the new 125gallon setup asap
