How Many Posts Do You Need To Get Off Of Newbie?

i see your point but when you click 'view new posts' and there are 3 or 4 posts on the same topic on the first page alone, it does get a bit silly. The question has been answered one time but people seem to need to post again 30 mins later with the same topic/question?

the search facility is there for a reason, to see if anyone before you has asked a question and to find information, people should at least search before asking a question..
i can see what your getting at..but the why did my fish die and the like are understandable because every situation is different

yeah i know but its is nearly all the same cause, ammonia and stocking issues.

people should check these before they post, and eliminate other options, and then they should post, when everything else has been exhausted.

i think your both right people should read the posts and THEN if they still have questions post them thats the mistake i made i didnt read before posting all thoses threads on finding my fish (found it btw) i would still be on newbie status.

but now i know through READING these posts and similar not to go post crazy

like it says in one of the beginners thread

NO. OF POSTS DOES NOT = KNOWLEDGE

btw the a pogo stick does not have gills

some people have les sposts but contain more information, the likes of nmonks come to mind.
whereas some people just ask pointless questions like

can i have this fish
is my stocking ok
can i have this plant
why dont my plants grow
is my fish pregnant
my fish has died, why?
what is this fish/plant
if i add more light will my plants grow better? (the 2WPG club come to mind)
why do i have algae

all pointless and all can be solved by research on google or on this forum, thats why some people have lots of posts and still cant tell a fish from a pogo stick. :good:
when i joined, i didnt post for about 2-3 weeks (apart from to say hello) as i was just reading all the time. so much info to take in, thats the best thing a newbie can do, the info is all here, just use the SEARCH function, not many people do it seems, i for one get fed up of answering the above questions

I Strongly disagree that those questions are pointless.

If those questions shouldnt be asked then they wouldnt have been answered in the first place
Newbies who get their first tank may ask alot of those questions you mentioned.
Sure..they may find the answers by searching..however..i feel that when more experienced members reply to basic questions it gives the new guy direct information which will be better remembered. Also it makes the new guy feel reasured and helps them realise they are not alone and can always ask for help.

I myself research everything first..but..i still ask on here (as i trust this forum)

Another benefit that I see to asking direct questions is that the answers can be tailored to the specific circumstances by an adequately experienced fish keeper. No amount of reading by a newbie will veer reach that level of thoughtful response that they can get from the experienced aquarist. Why are we here if not to help each other get the answers that we need in areas where each of us is less experienced.

I believe the question has been answered and I'm going to close this before there is a big debate over what questions are relevant. -Dawn
