How long?

i ahve read sum where that someone's fish survived a long holidae with no feeding becasue the lights were off so the fish were always sleepin? like hibernating or sumthing? :X i ahve VERY bad memery

Maybe, sounds plausable. Wouldn't be good for any plants though :)
 
Unless you know a experienced fish keeper who will look after your fish it would be best to leave them unfed. Fish are cold blooded and so unlike mammals can go for very long periods without eating, also there is a suprising ammount of invisable food in the aquarium which they will find. I have on occasion left my fish unfed for 14 days and all has been fine.
 
If you have a nicely cycled tank with plants and such the fish will pic around looking for food, as CFC said, feed them a little more than usual before you leave too. Better safe than sorry :D
 
The dangers of overfeeding in well meaning but inexperienced hands are far greater then leaving them un fed. I routinely leave myine for periods of 2 weeks without ill effect. Filters should run as normal, lights should be turned on and off - use a timer if you can't get someone to do it - a timer is more reliable. Those "weekend blocks" etc, are pretty much useless.
