How Long Do You Keep Lights On?

I keep mine on for 8 hours each day, on at 8am and off a 2pm on weekdays and on at 12pm and off a 8pm on weekends.

I have vallis, hygrophila (stricta) and java fern. I also dose flourish twice a week.

EDIT: Adding in what plants I have.
8am - 2pm is 6 hours lol .

 That's what I meant LOL

I keep mine on for around 10-12 hours a day, only because I just got new plants. From 7:30 AM to about 6-7 PM is normal for my tank

5-10 hours depending on my work schedule, or when i'm going to bed. Id say on average about 8 hours a day.

8-10 hours in the four footer, depending on whether I have moved or added plants.
2-3 hours in the betta tank, but it sits right by a table lamp, that Mrs. doodle keeps on most of the day.
Mostly easy growing plants, dose Flourish twice a week. No CO2.`

Mine is on for about 12-13 hours. On at 6-7am (when I get up) and off at about 6-7pm. Plants and fish seem to be happy.

thanks to all who answered.
lots of answers here, as fluttermoth said "6-8 hours" looks about average. a few 12hrs (I wish I could have mine on that long). gruntle, 13 hours? you legend

my max is 8 hours to start a little algae build up enough for my nerite snails to feed on.

It's a fairly dark room and just a standard fluorescent tube. It's just easy for me to switch the light on in the morning, feed, do a headcount, and go to work. Then come home from work, do a headcount and switch off.

After a massive house renovation later in the year the tank may find itself a new home in the lounge room so maybe no need for such a long light interval.

Mine are on for about 8 hrs. I've heard if you leave your lights on all day your fish's organs will outgrow the fish and shorten it's life, so I'm really paranoid about my lights being left on. :)

Well no need for you to be paranoid, since it's not true :)
What you're referring to is keeping a fish in a tank that is too small. This is called stunting.

Think I must be getting more light in my room than I thought. If it wasn't for algae I'd have my lights on around 12 hour mark .
