i need to send out 3 pairs of bettas to my dad in L.A., i live in philly. I wanna know how i would go about shipping the fish. what would i need equipment wise., and is overnight a good idea?

i don't think shipping fish would be that good unless it took only like 1-3 hourz? I Thought fish could only like last in those lil baggies for like 2hours

unless your shipping expensive or rare fish its not at all worth it cause they have to be overnited for a minimun of 40 dollars

you have to have a heat pad much like the ones they sell at outdoor stores that last for up to 12 hours

and a battery powered air pump

and make sure they are in a well padded box in a very thick plastic bag.

i do not know how all this works i was told this though and i know alot of people do it on ebay idf you want you could find someone on there and ask them how they do it

I used to collect shipments from the airport. When fish are shipped commercially, they are not fed for several days to prevent waste products, are bagged in small amounts of water the bag is inflated with pure Oxygen, and they are placed in polystyrene fish boxes. In such conditions, fish survive for a couple of days, although there is an inevitable loss rate.

I don't think I'd try to send fish through the post here.

If they're bettas, I don't think you need to put a battery powered air stone since they can breathe air. I'm sure that if you sent them in a big enough bag with water, in a styrofoam box, they'll survive

dunnow thats just what i was told

hope ya get it figured out

Ask the people in the Betta forum. I know a lot of them have experience with buying and selling bettas, so I'm sure at least one of them can tell you how to ship yours. I'd think the bettas would need a heat pack too as well, depends on where you stay I guess, I've no idea how the temp. over there in Philly is...

It depends on how cold it is, in the summer months its not to much of a problem but in winter, heatpacks are a good idea as well as all the things lateral pointed out. If your just sending the 3, then a large, ish poly box and 3 of the biggest bags that will fit in with around 1 part water to 4 parts air and you should be ok.

ste :)
