How Do You Say Characins?

I've been reading it as car-car-ins. Dafty

I used to pronounce it as CHA-RA-KIN.
With the A's like a 'ha' sound.

I also pronounced Cichlid wrong for a while.
KI-CH-LID

but it's actually SIK-LID.

I was nearly there. I pronounced (in my head) ca ra kin. rather than ca ra sin.
Cichlid to me is sick-lid also.

Oh dear! Us poor people! It must be funny all getting an audio chat group conversation going over the net, asking what people's favourite fish were, we'd have never have heard of them a lot of the time due to mispronounciation.
