How do you dispose of your fish?

whoops. Mike you shouldn't have said that! Just wait till anna sees.

Gourami, as it insisted on terrorizing my prize Angel.
DUHHHHH. If you had done ANY homework on these two fish you would have known that BEFORE you bought them. Therefore you wouldn't have had to flush the gourami (which is a act of a lazy coward). Because you are a lazy coward, I woudn't get any more fish if I were you. Or at the very least find out from someone if the fish you want are compatable with the ones you already have. Rose :p

I am an experieced fishkeeper with more knowledge on the subject than most posters I have read combined.
Experienced fish keeper my arse. If you are so experienced then you should have known Gouramies and Angel fish would fight. At the very least done some homework on them. I think the newbie title fits just fine. Rose 8)

Micheal again you are showing you haven't got a clue what you are talking about. Any experience fish keeper would try to cure a sick fish first or give off an annoying one, even try and trade it with the lfs. and only dispose of a fish as a last resort.
And to flush a sick fish never mind healthy fish down the toilet aint the best thing to do. Does the state fisheries and wildlife department know your putting live fish down the toilet? I know it's ileagal in a few states to do that.
By the way, have you any freinds? I shouldn't think so.

Easiest maybe Michael, but is it humane? As Anna says it is the cruelest way to kill a fish. You proport to be an experienced fishkeeper, I'm not contending that, but don't you have any morals? :(
At the end of the day, a person who has no code of honour has no soul. Sorry!

Not only is flushing easy but it is humane. The fish's senses are quickly overwhelmed by the experience and it is plunged into unconsciousness.

Michael,
What text or reference did you find that conclusion in. I would be interested in reading it myself.

Larry

The only real solution is to flush a certain poster's head down the toilet.

It's a pity that no license is needed to keep fish - or some form of course that should be taken before buying fish. If there was, it would stop people like you (michael) from ever being allowed to keep any sort of pet :grumpy:

Michael, Just imagine for a momentfalling down a well and when you reached the botton being shunted along stagnant water until you choked to death. Is that humane? This is what its like for your fish, and you think it's hamane. You have a warped sense of humanity-I think. I hope you come back in the afterlife as a fish, and your fishkeeper decides to dispose of you in the same manner. Then I wonder if you would think it humane. I bet you squashed frogs and toads when you were younger or pulled wings off dragonflies or birds or cut snakes in half, just for the fun of it. You strike me as a sort of person who would be remorseless.

What is inhumane is millions of fish are bought every year by novices etc etc.
The road to experience for many is littered with the bodies of dead fishes.

Micheal~ Thats why we here are trying to help people not slag them off. Yes many do purchase everything and set their system up without doing any researh, but pleases credit our members for what they are. Wanting to learn.

Thank you most knowledgable one for pointing the error of my ways. I dare suppose you have never lost a fish or "flushed" any down the pan??? Think for one moment all the unfortunates that may have survived the flush. Oh I'm sorry you know that the die don't you? You were never a novice, you just became an expert from your very first fish. Oh that's good, that's very good. You must let me into your secret of your success.

I'm really just repeating Dragon, but...
Was your father an ichthymologist (sp?), who just never allowed you a tank until you were absolutely versed in fish care?

the vet told me that there is evidence that most of these methods cause suffering (such as putting the fish in CO2). The alka-selzer method *might* be humane, but personally I tried it and I'm not convinced

By CO2 & alka-seltzer, do you mean carbonated water?  I had read a few years back that it worked as an anaesthetic.  And that freezing a fish induced hypothermia and then death, much like people it said.  Dragon, do people incur pain of frostbite before hypothermic sleep when freezing to death?   Prob. an obvoiuosly stupid question, but please humor me.

Not to doubt you, Anna.  Your info is obviously from a good source.  I appreciate the update...I think--just seemed so much easier the other way. ;)  In theory, anyway, I've never tried it.

I don't think i could actually go through preparing a fish for the fridge.  But, how would you know when the fish is 'sleeping'?

Micheal,
I really did not want to go this route, but you really leave me no choice...

Why are you not acknowledging my questions? Is it because you feel I am inferior to you, or perhaps you just don't have the time for such an obvious question. Could it be that you just don't have an answer?

I mean I have not been rude or sarcastic with you as you have been with the members here. I am trying to "compare notes" with you as you alluded to in your post about your "Newbie" status.

Please if you would do me the honor of answering my questions I would appreciate it very much.

I have it...This is your way of trying to get me to "bite". I refuse to be drawn in by your sarcasm and your infuriating posts, so your just going to ignore me...RIGHT!!! Or is it that your "INTIMIDATED" by me??? I have noticed that you are not posting replies to anything I post, so what other conclusion can I come to??

Anyway I hope you stick around because I can always use a daily dose of laughter...and your posts most certainly provide me with that.

Larry

Micheal,
Could it be that you and I have come up against each other before on another board. Perhaps you were using a different alias then. Perhaps this is it and you are to embarresed to admit (to me at least) who you really are. Could it be I stripped you of your dignity on this other board...made you look foolish (like I am doing here..NOW). Perhaps....
