with summer here the general air temp gets warmer so hence does the tanks, our room where my 55gal tank is, gets really hot sometimes high 30's C how do i keep the tank cool apart from water changes everyday!!

Try it 1 degree lower, sometimes they work fine but are just off by a few degrees.i think i have a faulty one cause even at 28 deg with it turned right down it still goes on... ill try the bottle of ice water. i know 28 isnt too bad for rams but i am always over cautious..

An air pump agitating the surface will surely have the same effect?Get a small battery powered/usb fan aimed at the surface

Turn up your a/c
I run my aquarium at 25.5c and with the hotter weather it's risen to 26.5., but i'm using LED lighting so that helps.
