Hot Tap Water?

Depending on how your house has been build/plumbing fitted everyone is different.

I started off doing the same as you guys, filling with warm water from the tap etc until i started testing and cycling. One day my Ph was a nice steady 6.4 ready for discus and such, the next day after a 50% water change the PH had gone up to 8.5 sufficed to say i was stumped till i did some water tests on my tap water, the cold water is neutral at 7 on the nose, however the warm water is ABOVE 8.5 (highest reading i can get on the high range PH)

Sufficed to say, since that day i have done 3/4 cold water 1/4 kettle boiled water to keep my PH stable for my discus.

If you have PH sensitive fish, i wouldnt suggest using the warm water tap, however if you keep hardy fish that are used to fluctuations in PH from their natural habitat i dont see a huge issue =-)

i just use cold water, and dont warm it up, if i put 20 gallons of cold water into 100 gallons of fishtank water it might drop a degree or two but nothing my fish cant handle... i hope lol

I Nomraly add around about 25% hot water 50% Cold water

It does'nt effect my fish so thats good. :good:

lol what is the other 25%
:look: Plain. Boring. Water. ;)

Lukewarm water, I assume.
Nope.
Spring water. :good:

Lukewarm just means room tempature water.
Na

Luke warm is a guy. :good:
lmao ( saracasm )

Im pretty.. Sure.. Its Plain water. :good:

See you americans have Lukewarm or what ever its called. Us brits have plain boring water.

I'm not talking about what KIND of water it is. I'm talking about the TEMPATURE of the water.

Then whats lukewarm got to do with anything?
You said you use 25% hot water and 50% cold water. And someone asked what the other 25% was. I suggested it was room tempature water(but I used the term "lukewarm") as that is how many people describe room tempature water here in the states. Just a simple misunderstanding. Ovbiously, you guys are different there in Europe!

*some* of this was quite interesting to read. I did wonder if you would have to try and match the temperature of water going into the tank as the temperature of the tank already. Looks like it's personal preference, same with whether you use hot tap water or heat up the cold water manually.
