Hot Tap Water?

I Nomraly add around about 25% hot water 50% Cold water

It does'nt effect my fish so thats good. :good:

lol what is the other 25%
:look: Plain. Boring. Water. ;)

lol that comment is just typical knox really lol the kind of comment i have come to expect from you, (not in a bad way) loving the shifty eye emotocon :look:

Lol, I would expect something more like

"Plain
Boring.
Water."

He does seem to get a little enter key happy, hah.

From what I am reading, I see no one has reported having experienced problems using hot tap water. So the bottom line is, there is not harm in doing it if you personally havent seen any troubles.

What concerns me is the fact that the hot tap water contains lead which is harmful to humans if consumed. From the studies, older homes are more prone to dissolved lead in the pipeline. Hot water dissolves lead from pipes into water and is not recommended for consumption. I couldnt find how this affects the fish health.

Nope.

i use hot water from my tap, i match the water coming out of the tap to the water in my tank (roughly) and then fill up a big bucket and mix with declorinator, i have a new combi boiler though, but i still run the tap for a while before i use it incase it has been sat still for some time, and both the inlet and outlets of my combi boiler are copper its only when it gets near to the tap it turns to flexi. but if you just run it first then the water has no time to absorb anything from the pipes. so all in all, assuming you have a combi/normal boiler as opposed to a water tank then yes it will be safe.

I do pretty much the same as Dave, let it run a bit. I do have a lead main line running into the house, lead will bend without breaking. This is to accommodate the settling of the house over the years. I hose a hot/cold mix right into the tank, adjusted for temperature.

Also You shjolud always let a tap run because of bad mineral's or something?

Plus Dave has to run That big ol 7fter witch proberly takes age's to heat

tell me about it, its a pain in the back side! but i take about 300 litres out twice a week and i fill a 100 litre bucket up from the tap, i made a pipe to fit to the tap so i leave it running to fill the bucket, at the right temperature, add the dechlorinator. i have to fill it 3 times to fill the tank back up, takes about half an hour, but it takes me about an hour to siphon 300 litres out because i use a small pipe first to pick up the debris without sucking in all the sand then siphon the rest out with 1" pond hose and it takes about 1 minute!
but an hour and a half twice a week is nothing if i want to keep my fish healthy and happy!
now i have the rays i will be siphoning about 100 litres out every day to suck up debris as and debris left lying around could go mouldy and affect the rays.
the only thing i do differently to tolak i suppose is dechlorinating the water before it enteres the tank as opposed to dechlorinating the whole tank before/afterwards.

Our hot water comes from a storage tank so ive never risked using hot. I have a large 250L tank so I put on a couple of large stew pots filled with cold on the cooker and just add some to the buckets of cold I fill. I put the pots on the stove while im cleaning and emptying the tank and by the time im ready to refill they have boiled! :D

My hot water also comes from a storage tank, but I have not had issues using it. However I have to stop now because I want to see if bypassing my softener helps my plants at all. I was using heated softened water, now I need unsoftened water which I cannot get heated. It comes straight out of the well at 48*F, then I add boiling water to it. The softener strips Mg and Ca out of my water, my high tech plants are showing these nutrient deficiencies. If the unsoftened water does the trick maybe I can bribe my dad into adding a tap between the hotwater tank and the softener.

genneraly tap water is a bad idea but sum people do it and it works out but i wouldnt temp it personally coz i got a couple hundred $ worth of fish in my tank so im very coutious with everything with my tank

There is nothing wrong with tap water as long as you know the stats and dechloro if you need too. You can Use RO, but that is still suppose to be used as a mix. Because pure RO is bad for fish. Some of the fish rooms around here house a lot of $ in fish an plants and still run off tap water.

never used warm/hot water always just used normal cold tap water :S
