Honduran Red Points Cichlids Breeding - Free Swimming Fry :)

Srry,
i have been ignoring this thread for some reason. My biggest is, I wanna say, 3" and he's a devil. Him and the other male his size are overly aggressive when they get hungry, I had no flake food for some time so the got fed maybe one good feeding a week for 2 weeks and they started to take it out on my Serpaes, I only have 4 now. Also, a tip is whenyou give yours away, your gonna regret it when you see your fish again. I took about 15 of the buggers to the lfs and now I see about half of them still there after a month are looking better than my 6 I have now. One is even in the 125 show tank and has to be 4 inches, almost big as my male.

There's not been any updates for a while....I only posted here today after quite some time so I doubt you've ignored it :)

About the growth rates at the LFS, that'll be the automatic water changing I guess they have helping with the growth rate....or they're using meth' blue

Natural growth rates in tanks generally aren't that quick...

they do have great filtration with continuos waterchanges, UV lights, and couple thousand gallons of water a hour on about 500 gallon systems. They rarely have sick fish or dead fish due to sickness

The parents have a BIG batch of new wrigglers now...there are around 15 juvies in the tank also....I see problems coming

I think I may put the HRP breeding pair up for sale, depending on what the outcome of this situation is...

I tried moving the HRP male and then both parents into the main tank but they were just too "nasty"

I may turn the tank into a juvie retreat...longer term I will need somewhere for geo and sev fry too, but keeping the bioload up to sustain the filter is a must really

Any suggestions welcome

Where are you locate Kaiv? in UK or US?
edit: nevermind, just saw the rotkeil and realized must be in UK because star is.

Got home and a lot of the bigger fry/juvi have been killed and eaten by the parents, so I have managed to save 7 (1 albino looking a bit poorly) by moving them into the big tank. One albino was added last week as it was bigger than the others by a bit and has done fine in the tank on it's own.

The next tricky bit will be catching them to pass on when they are big enough!

Cool, your pair looks about same size as my pair. My Male is 10cm and female is 8.5cm. How big is yours?

Yep, much the same, I think my male is slightly bigger but can't be exact as I can't measure right now....everytime I get close he starts trying to butt me!

I moved my pair into another tank and I am seeing good signs of spawning. Soon as they lay eggs, all other fish are going into other tank which has only couple of other fish. So I'm hoping for another $40 to get a spare 20 long to rear fry in.

I thought a pic of one of the Leucistic juvies was in order, these guys are great, I have 2 I've kept:

More pics of all my fish in my tank journal, link in sig

WOW! I want a white HRP! My pair need to stop fighting. Need to put up divider again

How early did you notice they where Leucistic?

How early did you notice they where Leucistic?

As soon as you start seeing marking on the others, I count at least 3 out of ~20 in the current fry batch (small batch and quite a few died off early)

It's pretty apparent early on, you see translucent strips rather than the norm...

Mine still have a blue hue on the bottom fins though, I bet they'll look really nice when a big bigger
