Does anyone know if a HMA filter will remove Nitrite from tapwater and/or have any affect on Nitrate levels of the tapwater?

I am thinking about getting a 3-stage HMA Unit (the one that removes chloromine as well as chlorine and heavy metals)

I've had a browse on Google and can't find anything about the effect a HMA will have on tap-water Nitrite and Nitrate

Cheers :good:

You have Nitrite in your tap water?! Thats not good  ...I dont know much/anything about the filter in question but if its anything like an RO unit (another tap water filter) then you will need to take into account the effects of removing all elements in the water, not just nitrate.

Yes mate, i've had levels of 0.25 nitrite in my tap water for the last 5-6 days, needless to say i am not impressed!

Have you had the water tested by the water company? The tests we use are at the very budget end of testing equipment and are far from being entirely accurate.

I've got Thames Water (Water Quality) dept ringing me on Mon or Tue. I telephoned Thames Water today.

The kit is definitly detecting some nitrite, as my tanks are coming back 0.0 and tap a very close match to 0.25

My parents who live up the road are also coming out at 0.25, i gave them a free nitrite test this morning!

I know the legal limit is 0.5 which is quite scary actually.... the most recent water report i can get my hands on for my area is 2007, the average sample of nitrite was 0.027 and the max was 0.2

My stance to Thames Water will be that i am aware it's a fish testing kit, i am aware it's below the legal limit, but as a customer i am concerned and unhappy and i will ask them what they can do for me

i have a 2stage hma filter, and my tap water is lower than what comes out the hma and ive just replaced the 2 filter cartridges
and you think you have problems lol
