Hey all, I recently bought a high finned spotted pleco from Petsmart, now I know the basic care for these guys, but they're just so awsome looking I wanted to learn more about them, like breeding, sexing and other stuff... The problem is that I can't seem to find any information on them under the name of "high finned spotted pleco". Can anybody give me any information on these guys, or can anybody give me any sites which references these guys??

Doesn't look like that, and I can't get a pic of it because he/she is always hidding... I've heard of it refered to as a leporard pleco before it that helps...

yeah id guess Gibby as well, forget about sexing it until it reaches a foot or so and you wont breed it unless you have a pond, a big pond. See the size in the link provided above, they grow quick as well.

My first thoguth is a sailfin plec too, and scrap the foot long, try 2 feet in length, they get huge. It could also be an L001 which is related to the Giiby, but its colouration and size are different, L001 grows to around 10" and is black with golden spots, where as Gibby's are brown/gold with black spots.

And seeing it is petsmart I doubt its an L001, well from what I heard of that place its like our british PEts@home

It's a Gibby plec thanks much for all the help... I've read it grows to 18" average... so I've got him in a 55gallon right now, he's only about 4" so hopfully he'll be fine until I get a larger tank, even then I think a 55 should be alright for a 18" plec, although mabye not...

Will a bigger tank be required? I have a 75gallon African Cichlid tank, so he may be more comfortable when he's larger in that tank, but for the time being he's in the 55gallon (til he reaches about 11")

whats the footprint of the 55 and 75?

and do you keep the africans at a high pH?

For a full grow gibby, which is more towards 24" than 18" you will be a tank at least 4x3x2' which is around 150gal (not sure no the volume that would give you, just a guess)

that's fine by me, I'm getting a 120gallon soon (6' x 2' x 2') should be a good size... thanks for the info, if anybody else has good information I'll greatly appriciate it...

a 6x2x2' is more than 120gallons ;) a 4x2x2' is 120 :)
