Hello everyone,

My name is Marie, and I live near Kings Lynn, Norfolk. Me and my hubby have kept tropicals for about 5 years now, with varying degrees of success! I look forward to being a member and hope I can contribute in some way. Plus I have a few Q's...

welcome to the forum :good: im also from Norfolk

Nice to meet you...... I lived near Kings Lynn as a kid, in a little village called West Winch. Some happy memories

Thank you for the welcomes.

Devoted to Discus - I know W. Winch, not far from here. Do you mind if I ask where in SE Asia you are? My hubby is from Jakarta, Indonesia.

I am leaving in Thailand, but work between here, Cambodia, Vietnam and Laos

You lucky devil! We were thinking of moving to that part of the world. Would love to live in Thailand, but foreigners can't own property. And I also heard that it's hard to get your personal effects imported. My son is gonna move to Singapore in a couple of years, partly so he can visit Thailand more often. Thailand is on my bucket list.

Yep, Norfolk is a nice place to live. Had culture shock when we moved from London nearly 20 years ago, but wouldn't want to go back now.

Good morning Colleen, and thanks for the welcome. It's nice to be here

There are companies that arrange contracts in their names to allow expats to buy property(all safe and legal) so it exploits a loophole. Likewise with personal effects, there are legal ways around the 100% tax payments. I have done it all, and to be honest it was not a problem. I am here because of my work, but if I can I will stay forever, as I love it here. Everything from the way of life, through the culture, and the people. It is a breath of fresh air. If you want any detailed info you are welcome to PM me.

Thanks so much. It's always been my dream to live in SE Asia. I love Indonesia, but I think Thailand is even better from what I've heard. We almost moved to Bali a few years ago, but it's too commercialised, so glad we didn't. I may PM you at some point...
