right so me and my mum and dad went out to maidenhead today to buy some stuff for my marine setup ( pressie for crimbo) and we were talking to this person called shaun (hes a good person and doesnt try to rip you which is always nice) and well long story short im getting A BRAND NEW TANK!!!

Aquarium: Aqua One 620 (loved my 500 so much thought i go for the model upwards) has all filters and heater inclusive

Stand : black £65
Test Kit :API master saltwater kit £24.96 (the colour charts look really good as all the colours are very diferent from each other) BOUGHT
Thermometer : little glass one BOUGHT
lighting : 50/50 x218w £10.99 each BOUGHT
salt: TMC 4kg 120 lt £15.75 BOUGHT
Sand : crushed coral they only have a 25 KG bag for £25 but hes gonna split it for me
Hydrometer: Instant Ocean £15.99 BOUGHT
And the biggest thing is im getting a skimmer WOOOOO

TMC v2 400 skimmer £85.95 (is this a good skimmer coz the man said it was a decent one)

going there on tuesday to pik up the tank and skimmer and the person in the store is gonna mod the hood for me to fit the skimmer
 
i work in a maidenhead aquatics aswekk and tbh the 620 is a really really good tank for the money and the build quality. the skimmer is pretty good one i think. sounds like your doing really well mate
 
sorry to bump in on your post, i have heard this sand/ coral argument over and over again. why is sand better, the only thing i can come up with is that sand is easy to clean.

sorry will but out now , tank sounds cool to when you get it home take some pics :D
 
rob its not that its easy to clean but that you dont have to clean it with crushed coral you have to siphon it heavly and even then it traps detris

glad you got sorted i'm running the 620t so we have a similar set up if the tank has the original hood don't use the trikle filter not worth it what lights does it have in the hood or are you upgrading?

sounds like you'll be busy boy next week glad you'll be up and running soon :good:
 
Wish my parents cared as much as mine My whole family is like "dumb fish". Well my mum id protesring me not to get another tank. She said she wont buy me one but that means she will. Well i hope.

Good luck on your tank tho. Keep us updated. Im excited for you.
 
I have an the same tank and skimmer!! I use the built in filter without the media in it for water movement. I have one powerhead and the skimmer for the rest of the water movement. It is a great little tank. The built in lighting was enough for my beginner corals so I wouldn't ugrade just yet unless you want anything fancy in there.

I also have a crushed coral subtrate and find that using the siphon during water changes keeps it perfectly clean. :good:
 
hmmmm im not a fan of doing the qwhole siphon cleaning so ill see if they do aragonite :) and glad to hear of maiden after your pc broke. Also i saw the 620t and it is a nice tank but just a bit too overpowering for my room and a bit more expensive. Sianeds how has the tank ben for you and the skimmer? the man in the shop is trying to mod the tank so it will fit how did you get ures to fit in the hood?
alls i can say this is the one time im glad the LFS were trying to sell me more as it made my mum and dad realise exactly what i needed an dthat bigger is better. Also maidenhead are selling their live rock for £10.95 per kilo :eek: and there is some lovely pieces with coraline and pulsing xeina growing on it. but im really hyper now because my dream is becoming a reality :D Im gonna start a diary and have photos of every single bit of setup coz i no how much we all like our pictures ;)

im gonna go with the stock lighting and i have the 50/50 bulbs (bought today) and maybe one day ill slap in some more maybe two t5 or pc's but that will be long way down the line coz of the old $$ flow. i think i will use the trikle filter because it will be more surface agitation and i will probably put some anti phos or activated carbon in there. ;) aalways glad for everyones input

i have my fluval for my rowaphos and carbon so have disabled my trikle filter don't bother with the sponge though as for the lights if they are the ones i've seen in the 620 with the tubes your putting in should be fine for softies i take by 50/50 you mean blue and white

yer on the box it says 7k and 14 k 50/50 so blue and white
