Here I go again 150 gallon reset.

Honestly I don't think sunlight is that big of a deal. If your nutrient levels are stable, you don't extend the lighting period too much with artificial lighting and you have plenty of good plant growth algae wont be an issue.

Nice work on the stand, looks great.

Sorry if I missed it are you only using the UGF or is that a supplement for another filter? You going for reverse flow? Makes sense if you are planning for a lot of breeding not to have heavy mechanical filtration.
The UGF, plus two sponge filters all air driven. Plus two internal filters size to be determined.

Been down to the beach and found some goodies for the tank

I decided to stop the fill. I will now let everything settle down, for a few weeks as expected the driftwood started to float. I think at this level I have around two hundred liters of water so plenty to add plants and fish. I will order some plants in the next couple of days.

Thought I would post a couple of photos from above. These show how I have put some rocks on top of the wood to keep it submerged. Also it shows the under gravel filter in the second photo, even though I have put around 100 kgs of gravel in this tank it isn't enough, so I will grab another few kilos to cover the filter.

what is the reason for having it half filled? Wouldn’t having it completely full give the wood a better chance to get waterlogged? It is looking so awesome, I am incredulous. How can you tell that the wood is safe when it comes off the beach?

The more water you have the more things move around, at this level the main pieces are submerged, and the tank is stable. I know this wood is safe. It is NZ native hard wood that has been in the ocean for years, we also have zero pollution on the west coast so nothing can contaminate it.
