My ~15 gallon fish tank project

He's so pretty! I'm sure he would investigate some shrimp or snails if you put them in. My bettas live to interact with me.

I was thinking about some cherry shrimp but the ones at the store are tiny. Like the size of a pinky finger nail and i think the betta would love to eat them )

Yea, maybe wait until you can get bigger shrimp. What are your stocking plans now?

The day after tomorrow the 1st batch of plants will show up.

Did the "mirror test" with my betta. He came to see what it was.....and returned to building his nest. He was just curious, with no signs of flaring. Now I'm worried that he's too friendly

Later edit: they just mailed me that the Phyllanthus is out of stock (despite the fact that on their site it is showing the opposite) and they'll order it from Dennerle Germany and the entire order will be sent to me in 15 to 20 days....

That's good that's he's friendly! He would probably cuddle with some shrimp I'm excited to see the plants in the tank!

they've mailed me again and they actually had the plant and the parcel was shipped today. In 1 or 2 days it shall be here.

a friend also started a 200l fish tank a couple of weeks ago and this weird white thing showed on his gravel, there's no substrate in front where this white thing is, there's JBL substrate under the gravel in the back where the plants are. Any idea what could it be? He sent me 2 pics. Looks nothing like the white fungus i have on my driftwood.

It is likely a fungus, and obviously it is coming from the underlying layer of whatever it is. That is a problem with all such plant substrate and soil, the bacterial/fungal growth.

Presumably it is "safe," since it is from an aquarium-intended substrate. There is likely something organic in the substrate which funguses. Like leaving fish food uneaten, it develops fungus. I've no idea what if anything would eat this fish-wise, but snails might (I say might), maybe shrimp?

Ghosts shrimp will probably eat it. Get them from a good source, they are really cheap where I am. ($2 for 10 shrimp)

I also went to Hornbach, is a german home improvement big box retail chain that's also in Romania. And I was more than surprised on how well the staff is trained and how well they do maintenance to the fish and plant tanks. The lady there asked me if I use CO2, or ferts and told me about what and how to feed fish.They have a ton of Betta fish , all kept in hang on nurseries , inside those huge plant tanks. I bought some plants, 2 otocinclus affinis and a 112L Marina Fish Tank - 80 x 35 x 40 cm (~29,6 gallons) (photos are fom their website as i haven't unbox it yet, as i'm waiting for the stand). For now this will be a backup if thing go wrong in the betta tank. So far the Betta and the Otos ignore each other. The Beta is busy exploring the plants and the Otos started working on the wood.
