I'm not sure if this is normal but my two largest angels constintly grap hold of eachothers mouths and shake violently.. i thought it was cute at first until the started to shake really hard, and i noticed some damage to there mouths- also the smaller of the two, who is in better shape concerning fins is a real bad nipper, but only picks on my largest angel. i'm wondering if this is some kind of pre-spawning behavior (the mouth-lock) for the female to challenge the male or just a fight for territory.

help me out here thanks

Cichlids do this both for fighting and as a ritual before breeding. If you feel it's getting too bad you should seperate them.

would you suggest taking them back to my lfs, as i don not have a different tank for one to live in, or should i just separate them temporarily, cool them off a bit and change the scenery?
sorry about double posting: i was ancious ;) I love my angels

If it were me, I'd take one (or all) back because a 20g is too small for just 1 angelfish even, imo.

sorry about double posting: i was ancious  I love my angels

That's ok. I understand how you want to get help asap, just wanted to let you know that I replied in this thread is all. ;)

According to the occupants listed in your signature, you definatly need to return the angels. The tank with the angels in is abit overstocked in my opinion.

thanks for the advice.
I think what i'm going to do is take my 2 larger angels back (nigel wouldn't hurt a fly, he is missing two of his fins and just kind hangs out, hes a survivor (different story anyways)) and possibly throw in a red tailed black shark. It may still be slightly overstalked, but less so than it was before. Tell me what you think
p.s. the chocolate albino pleco is just a wee guy (2")
