Also, I think you should research your tank. What size tank do you have? I suggest you look into carrying capacity, which will keep the ammonia down in the future. Also, you said you have four neon tetras. I suggest if you have enough room you get at least two more neon tetras after the ammonia settles down. Tetras are a schooling fish, and a higher number f them will make them feel safer and curb aggression. If you have a tank that holds under ten gallons of water I suggest you get a bigger tank. The main chemical you need to worry about removing from tap water is chlorine. Chlorine is added to the tap water to kill bacteria that would kill humans, but it is harmful to fish. Chloride, however, is a chemical the human body uses to maintain correct metabolism and maintain acid-base balance.

today i went and got the water clean thing and i done a water change last thursday and today i cleaned the filters i have 2 and im going to change the water on the 1st or 2nd of jan

lost a neon to day only evedence was that the other fish were bullyin him i went and isolate him and came back about 2minutes later to find him dead

now only have 3 neons left

i also have done a water change today 50%

also thank to all as i have found the cause of the problem it was the water that one great guy came round and had a look to to try and help and make things clearer and that i hadent done the cycle right and aparently i made the bigest mistake in the book of fish keeping NEVER LISTEN TO PETS AT HOMES ADVICE AS THE ADVICE I WAS GIVE WAS APARENTLY A LOAD OF RUBISH AS the man i spoke to said it will be fine put some water in ect details in turn ont heater and filter and its done the cycle

Believe me when I say "We know exactally what you are going through!". You have been given bad advice, set up your tank, everything goes great for a few days, maybe a few weeks, then your fish start dying. You try to fix the problem by going back to the lfs and they sell you some chemicals. These either don't work or make things worse. I can try to make it really simple for you. First of all, get a good liquid test kit. If you can't get one right away, go on the assumption that your water is high in ammonia. Do daily water changes of 75 - 90% until you can get a test kit. When you get a test kit, test for ammonia, nitrite, and nitrate. If you have any reading for ammonia or nitrite above 0, do a water change. Unfortunatally this will go on for 4 - 6 weeks. Once the filter is able to convert the ammonia and nitrite, you will only have to do a water change about once a week. Until then, water changes are your best friend! Neons are very sensitive to ammonia, so this isn't shocking. Look to raise those numbers once this has all settled.

I had a lot of problems by going to pets at home to get fish, After I got a few new fish from that place, Poured the water into the after leaving the bag for half an hour and then release the fish, problems began to happen for months. After my huge clean and lost a lot of fish, I am very careful about introducing new water from outside sources. I should have listed to my instics as the fish in the shops tanks always died day in and day out.

I think something was added to your water from the store.

lost a neon to doy did do the water change 25% animonia going down quite alot but slowly i think the neon died because well he wasent the strongers of fishes i think he was a bad fish the neon i got come to think of it did look quite weak when i brought then but i got purswaded in to buying them
