Hello! So I got a new batch of some wild guppies a few months ago and noticed a couple developed dropsy. Took some of their poop and stuck it under the microscope and found these guys. They moving around a lot and when they go on their sides they are the same sorta shape as a red blood cell (oval but flat but also curved). Thinking they are some sort of OVA parasite but was hoping someone could confirm what they are. Got some metroplex in the mail. Supposed to arrive today but looking at the tracking I think it’ll take longer (another few days). Would metroplex work? I have wild shrimp and snails too in the planted tank and a little unsure how to approach the situation. Pretty sure metroplex messes with the inverts so can’t dose the whole tank. Would dosing the food be okay? What if the inverts eat the medicated food? Will they be okay? How long do I dose with the food? Can the parasites live on in the other animals?

id make sure all the fish eat the food but not the inverts
guppies have a lot of worms thats how it is

How would that work? Do I separate them out for feeding? Although I’m not seeing any parasitic worms. Just the ovas.

not sure what the ovals are
just feed the whole tank without the shrimp or seperate them into hospital tank

Whenever you buy new fish, it's best to quarantine them first for at least 3-4 weeks.

Wild fish often carry internal parasites with them or even external parasites.
With shrimps and snails around, it's very difficult to treat them.
Some parasites probably may not affect the shrimps.
But snails can often become hosts for certain parasites and this may become unending battles for anyone who want to treat the tank.

For your case, probably you have to separate the fish and the shrimps/snails permanently or at least for a few months and treat the fish separately.

Ah ok. I was doing a wild tank and just scooped them out of my stream. And plopped them into a tank with each other so there wasn’t really a need to quarentine since it was just them. Good to know about the snails and shrimp though. I got a few other tanks I can treat them in so I’ll try that. A few months is a while though. Can parasites really live that long without a fish host :O
