To clean up your algae, you should get a singular nerite snail and maybe some neocaridina shrimp(cherry shrimp). They do well with bettas. I would recommend otos but your tank isn't well developed enough for otocinclus.
EDIT: Nerites are really good at eating algae, and as long as you only have 1 in the tank, they would reproduce like crazy like how other snails do. They will lay eggs around the tank, but those will not hatch unless it's fertilized and your other fish might eat them.
To keep your tank aerated you should swish the surface every now and then whenever your filter clogs, and if possible you should get live plants. They will aerate the water without the need of surface agitation.
Maybe you should add 1 snail. May live, may die... But if it lives it'll help with the algae. Depending on your water conditions it will live.
Nerite snails lay eggs which never hatch. I have not yet found a fish that eats them. I always had a nerite, one of the smaller species, in with bettas.

Yes. That is the type I'm going to get for my 20 gallon. I think it may help with your water conditions a lot with the algae. But if you dont have a lot of algae you do have to supplement their diet.

Mystery snails not only have some body outside the shell but they have large antennae and it known for bettas to bit these antennae off.
I have never fed anything to my nerites. I still have one I bought in July 2011 - yes, 10 years ago. And a small yellow and black striped nerite I bought in December 2013. They must find something to eat.

Nerite snails are actually super easy to care for and are suprisingly very beautiful for snails. They almost need the same care as shrimp. But I have to admit shrimp and crabs are a little better.

My mom is not gonna allow me to get a snail. No way.

Well has your mom ever seen a nerite snail? They are very beautiful. My favorite are the tiger nerites.
