Hi Guys, (my first post)

Hope everybody is ok.. I'm thinking of taking up a new hobby. We have kept coldwater fish in the past a few gold fish however we would like to get tropical fish.

and thinking on this tank below?

I'm thinking of buying this tank - http://www.seapets.co.uk/products/aquarium-supplies/aquariums/fluval/fluval-edge-aquariums/fluval-edge-aquarium-46-litre-gloss-white.html or http://www.seapets.co.uk/products/aquarium-supplies/aquariums/fluval/fluval-edge-aquariums/fluval-edge-aquarium-46-litre-gloss-black.html

what is your opinion? and colour black or white??!?!?!

I understand from the web that the temperture should be 26c - would a 25W heater be enough for this tank? - http://www.seapets.co.uk/products/aquarium-supplies/fish-tank-equipment/aquarium-heaters/thermostatic-heaters/fluval-edge-25w-heater.html or would a 50W be better?

For the rocks and items in the tank - I would like them to be quite realistic with rocks and Reef like rocks with holes..etc.. - any recommendations?

Many thanks for reading this and hope there's not too many questions...

Thanks
Lil

Hi and soon to be welcome to this wonderful hobby. I have bought a 98 litre tank for £74.99 of a website called swelluk. Excellent quality complete with heater, filter, light in hood and fish food and dechlorinator. I also have a 45 litre which is opened top with a clip on light again everything included except food. This tank was from rocketaquatics. I'll post links if you like. :)

For the tank colour I would go with Black (Just simply because it shows dust less than white lol)
Heater should be fine, although not having the adjustable temp would bug me.

IMO for Decor you are best visiting your LFS and viewing their wood/rocks. It can be a lot more reliable than looking at some picture on the interweebs

Also Kudos to you if you include some living plants :)

hello and welcome to tff. and welcome to this very addictive hobby lol. i would also recommend having a look at the beginners section on cycling your tank. use this site to ask question after question and get it right the first time. lol

Hi Guys thanks for the comments. please post links of other tanks. However me being a newbie - why would not having a adjustable temp be a down point? do fish like different temps?

Thanks again guys looking forward to this new hobby!

Welcome to the forum
For colour I'd go with black.
Temperature depends on what fish you want to keep, so a heater with an adjustable temperature setting is best
Have a read of the beginners forum for help on cycling etc

At the risk of sounding like a sour puss, but this tank looks like it may not be the easiest to clean or work on because of the opening at the center top.

You would not fill it all the way to the top as it is in the picture, since it is important to have a larger suface than the little opening can provide for oxygenation of the water.

But I do like the look of it and would choose the colour depending on the location and its colours and decor it would be set up in. :good:

many thanks - I'm looking around the forum now....

is there any look alikes that are clown fish, but tropical? - I would love to go Marine however I think thats a step way into the future!!!!!!!

Oops didn't look at the tank you're thinking of getting.
I have the small edge, lovely looking tank, but it's a nightmare to keep clean.
The new one will be more difficult as it's taller but still only has that small opening.
If I were you, for the money, I'd go with a more traditional rectangular tank

I have the edge and yes it's stunning but awful to clean out and decorate as you only have a small opening in the top. Mine only has four small fish in it as its the smaller version and I couldn't put more than 2 more in.

It depends if you are after a nice looking tank or if you would prefer low maintenance, happy fish. I would advise you go with a 100l minimum, you won't regret it and if you don't you'll end up getting one along the line anyway and using the edge as a spare like I do!

Welcome, please ask us lots of questions, we are more than willing to help new fishkeepers.
