Since I set up my 64l tank everyone with experience has told me how much easier a bigger tank is to maintain, with less water and fishy problems. If you have the space I would go for a larger one. I thought that most heaters are adjustable - wattage affects how hot it gets when its on - temp not fixed???

Hope you enjoy your new hobby. It has its moments!!

I have to be honest looking over this forum - I never knew it went into this detail at all! Its almost another language! I can see the bank balance going down very sharply indeed if your not too careful.

Although the cleaning in an issue I think I will go for the edge 46l tank only because it fits on the table perfectlly and the height is an advantage at mo. (I'm a sucker for LED lights)

Unless someone else can recommend a tank with similar size and features and easier to clean!!:)

If I enjoy the hobby I would like to goto a tank that Aqua Tom has (and use the Edge as a spare) ... although littlenemo tank is certainly tempting! however I think I would have to move house.

I've looked on many websites and the cost of the stuff to put into the tank can be silly money is there a website that uk guys recommend for service and price. I will order the tank around 11 tonight, then the conversation will be all about fish... I see you can buy them online - however isn't it better to see and buy then from a shop. not sure what your comments are about this but petsforhome is the closest fish place. - http://www.petsathome.com/

as always thanks for the comments and keep then coming... :)

I get all my tanks & equipment second hand from Ebay, craigslist etc. You can save yourself litraly hundreds by doing it this way.

Here you go, just customise the preferences to nearest your postcode first.

Be a bit careful with second hand tanks and check very carefully for leaks. Where are you based if you don't mind me asking? The SWELL sellers give vey good prices!

Good advice. Buying anything second hands is always a slight risk. Just go & see it first.

Welcome! :) :hi:
The 70L tank that you posted will be probably the best choice for you.
Why?
Well, I always say that bigger tank= better tank.
It's because a bigger tank is easier to maintain. It's also better for beginers because since it's a larger ammount of water and it can't be messed with so easily.
A bigger tank can also hold more, bigger and more [colorful] fish, which most of the hobbyists look for :).
When you progress in the hobby and want to get bigger fish, better equipment it'll also be for your advantage since it's fairly big. And if one fine upgrade your tank, everything can be transfered to it. (You can even use the 70L as a sump! :))

So good luck, that's my advice. Check out the link leading to begginers resource center to help you get started ;)

Good luck! ;)

excellent - thanks for all the tips and the link.

We have gone for the Edge 46L although its had missed responses, its the only one in the price bracket / size and looks that was ok.

However I've got for the 50W Heater instead of the 25W heater as recommended on here.

I was going to ask a few more questions but I think its been covered in that link page.

its the Fish now that are a problem - which ones?!?! I quite like the neon ones, as I think they will look good under the lights!

Will keep you updated, bought the first bit yesterday,

Welcome lil2012 and congrats on choosing a tank. Now you will need to cycle it before adding fish. We have a decent thread here that will get you started on a fishless cycle. You can link to it from my signature area.

so far so good....... did the water and stuff last night....

Looks lovely, but are those stones all one decoration, or individual stones piled up strategically? I only ask because they seem to be at quite a height, a height that could possibility to create enough momentum to crack the glass if it should the tank ever get knocked??

terry.

The edge is a lovely looking tank, but I think you will have problems keeping it clean due to the small opening
I loved mine in the beginning, but keeping it looking good is a lot of work.
Keep it lightly stocked, & don't have the lights on for too long as algae build up is almost impossible to clean off.
Sorry to sound negative, just my experience with them is they aren't the best tanks to have

no please keep comments coming - as hopefully when I get into this hobby this tank will be the spare tank!!!!

the stones are one solid item.

Should I fill the tank a bit higher now?

I think it needs some plants maybe a bit smaller on the right.... at the back...

Thanks again for your advise guys!

I would place a small plant, on the right front corner to hide the beginning part (foot) of the wood.

Have you tried out how it would look if you were to lay down the "stone-man" tilting it to the right? It wouldn't be so high and still would give you arches for fish to swim through and hide under?!

Tying some moss (java moss, christmas moss...) on the drift wood would look really cool too, or brazilian pennywort planted in front of the wood?! http://www.azgardens.com/p-949-pennywort-brazilian-hydrocotyle-verticillata-aquatic-plant.aspx

Am I right in thinking the stones are a hollow aquarium dec though? Should be ok. Looks nice :)

Having a smaller one of these myself my advice on stocking would be to get a small school of 6-8 pygmy cories and a few shrimp to keep it cleanish. Mine has and they are so entertaining!
