Heat Wave UK - possible heat deaths?

I have had a few deaths in the tank this week. The temperature is showing as 28 oC although this didn't drop over night. Ice packs aren't touching the temperature.

It's my Mollie breeding tank, so 5 fish that died this week are small 1 - 2 cm fish but this morning, I was really sad to see the two mother adult fish had died over-night.

I have put emergency oxygen on. Has anyone else experienced anything like this?

My tanks are normally that temperature so no change in mine.

Other than ice packs, you could try uncovering the tanks, block sunlight, keep lights off, fan pointed across surface of the water, frequent partial water changes.

Yes altho I haven't had any fish deaths - the tanks have been getting to sometimes 3 degrees over what they should be.
Have made some ice cubes with dechlorinated water and have been putting those in.
There's another thread on the go about hot weather with some good advice in it:

Increasing aeration is a must too with hot weather which can result in reduced oxygen in the water. More ripples at the surface rather than air-stones or bars

I have 3 tanks in the kitchen at home which get the sun all day temp can get very high other tanks are away from the sun and are ok , I keep the curtains shut to block out the sun & open the outside door when I can keeps the temp down also have good aeration , lights are off during the daylight only put on at night , my fish are ok .

I've got a platy breeding tank on my conservatory and have had no deaths the temp reaches 28 or so during the day but drops to 24 at night, were there any symptoms from the fish before they died? do you have a heater in the tank? I'd remove it and see if it makes a difference if you do, theoretically it should not come on when the temp of the dial is reached but mine does at times, also get another thermometer just incase, what size tank are they in?

Hi there, it's 240 litre. I have the heater switched off at the wall. I did start racking my brains, I put some weed from a pond in there about a week ago. Some would say a dubious source, so I am worried about that, but all the fish that have died look so healthy and show no symptoms what-so-ever. Gutted now you all mention about aeration. I should have left that on over-night. I think that is what it is.

It's requires much more heat to raise the temperature of large body of water 1 degree than a small body of water. Less than 75L tanks will be big items to watch over for temperature changes versus 120L tanks, who will probably remain the same temperature through the summer.

try venting the lid and turning the lights down/off. a small water change can help too.

ive been having this problem all week my tanks been at 30-32c constantly, ive lost 2 fish through the heat wave

Got home from work tonight and it's the first time in days that the temperature in the temperate and shrimp tanks has been under 26!
Lids off/open, occasional dechlorinated ice cube when I'm here and fan blowing over ice pack I think has done the trick for my tanks.
