id say because of the cycle, ive found ramshorns to do fine in higher temps.

Hmm, maybe if you put him in a small clear container and add tank water and a bit of gravel as well, and place somewhere near a window or something so a bit of algae can grow or just place a bit of algae wafer or a bit of fish food as they feed on rotting foods in the tank every now and again he might be fine until your tank is cycled?

Ramshorn can be kept in tropical or coldwater as far as I know so won't need a heater really, just room temperature water should be ok.

TBH I don't really know but thats just a suggestion!

Would not switch heater off during cycle as bacteria needs water at least 75F/25C, better at 80F/27C with agitated water.
FYI the colder the water to slower bacteria will grow, too cold, they die off eventually.

I imagine he's not too happy with the cycling. Aren't inverts more sensitive than fish?

Should I plop him in my main tank?

That might be best for the meantime until the new tank is cycled.

I'm such a noob! Forgot you had another tank and could just have easily said to put Sheldon in your main tank for the time being!

Algae wafers have grown white stuff on them. I think it's some kind of mold?

Really!?

Never seen or heard of this before. Is that algae wafer packet not our of date or anything?

I use Hikari algae wafers and not seen anything like mould or anything on them, generally my algae wafers don't last very long, my shrimps and snails are pigs!! lol

I may be wrong but I don't think your meant to leave the wafers in the tank for very long. I'd take them out and replace them after a few hours.
Why are we using plural here? how many wafers does one snail need!?

Or are you using them to cycle the tank?

LOL

Oh, sorry, I am using the algae wafers for cycling lolz.

I have some very sad news. Sheldon has been eaten. I came home this morning to see his corpse being munched.

:rip: Sheldon. You will be missed. :-(
The fiancé is devastated. Almost more than me. He has found his final resting place underneath my favourite gum tree where hopefully he will rest in peace. He came in as a trespasser and left as a soldier. Bless him. :-(

:-( Sorry for your loss! He was adorable.

Ramshorns seem to have a tough time of things. I had a ramshorn in my tank that hitch hiked in from a plant and grew to a half decent size, my GF loved him.

But then I added assassin snails to try to control all the other smaller snails, and unfortunately he become their dinner! Was hoping he was too big for the assassin to eat. Nope, one of the first to go!!

I've 2 videos of my main tank and fish as well As the small one. I will post when they've uploAded.
My test kit still isn't here. :-( Should have arrived weeks ago. Bloody courier! :grr:
