I am having the same problem!!!

Here is some suggestions that I got to help him become interested:

1. Give them time

2. Release the female and give it a bit

3. Feed Often

4. Take the male out of the tank for a few days and re-release him

5. Add bubbles from another male's nest

6. Show him another male (get that testosterone build up going!)

7. Take the female completely out of the tank for a few days

8. Water change

9. Or choose another couple?

also, try adding Amazon Rain by Tropical Science or Blackwater extract.

Hope it helps!

Ok i removed the fake plants that he loved so much, but after i did so he still just layed around. the water was fine chemical wise, but i checked teh temp and it was 85F  i turned off the heater, replaced 1/4 of the water and added a couple ice cubes to cool things down. he's up and about now, looking better. had teh female released for a lil while, she was redy to mate, tryed nudgeing him into potion but he would budge, eventually he came to and got pretty upset, so i re-cupped her. i covered the tub now and he appears to be about more, gunna try offering him food soon to see if he'll eat, he wouldn't earlier. going to give them some time over night, maybe the male will starte his nest now. thank you guys for all teh help

lol the poor little girl, trying to get him to do his job! Crazy guy! I really hope he gets the idea soon; do you have another bubble nest in someone else's tank you can put in his to give him the hint?

GD~
A few words of advice and I know I've told you this before and I know it's hard to do but....just cover them up and walk away. Really.

lol I think I mentioned it too.

No wants some big human "thing" peering over them while they are trying to "get in the mood" to get it on . Let him work his mojo..maybe he's shy lol.

I did! lol, it was covered for a long time, and its covered now.

Checked last night before i went to bed and somehow the male jumped into the cup and the female was out of teh cup...lol, i took her out and put her in her own tub for the night. after i woke up (1:00pm), i threw another male in there with him for a while, made sure the other male was a weakling so he would back down easy, that lil spar lasted about 5 minuts before i removed the other male and put the female in her cup. he seemed more interested than yesterday and as soon as i put the girl in her cup she spewed eggs everywhere, it was like confetti :D anyway after about an hour of flare time i released teh female and she went right to work, began building a nest off teh one i had made, and the male juts kinda watched. left for a while and came back, peeked in, and they appeared to be trying to wrap, but teh male doesn't know how :hyper: there are alot of eggs but i dont think they are fertilized, the female is eating most of them off teh bottom. they are still in there now going at it, so hopefully he'll get the hang of it and ill have fertilized eggs!

Woot he figured it out and i have eggs  to many to count, gotta be near 100 up under the peice of bubble wrap. female was done soon after i saw the eggs so i removed her and placed her in her tub. left male in there for a while, but he just kinda moped around for about an hour, didn't seem to be careing for the eggs at all, they just fell out of the nest and he kinda looked at em funny before going off to look for his girl, so i removed him to. i guess all my males are lazy.

Iv got bubbles going on in the tub around 1 bubble a second, i think thats enogh to keep teh water circulated without disterbing teh eggs. hatching bbs now, cant wait for the to hatch tomarrow. iv floated some fake plants in there too, last time i tryed to spawn bettas the babys looked like they needed something to rest on at teh surface. now iv gotta another question.

At what age should i do their first water change? i know their sensitive to changes in their water and i dont want to shock them. for me this would require also moveing all the lil guys to another tank. the spawn tank is much too small for them to grow out in so im gunna either find a larger tub or prep a 10g for it.

Well done GD!

Good thinking with putting the other male in there. Hope all goes well for you!

Can't wait for the little beebees!

If there's no male in there to keep the eggs/fry in the nest then you may need to drop your water level so the little mites can make it back to the top on their own 4" should do it.

I felt at a week old my fry needed the bottom cleaning so did a 25% water change. There's at least 110 of them in a 8US gallon tank so the poops were mounting up

Just make sure that the water you put back in is at the exact same temperature as their tank, use a thermometer, and let it slowly syphon in so as not to blow them into the middle of next week. Check your bucket with a torch as you will inevitably syphon up fry and they are incredibly hard to spot, use a torch to help you. When you think you've got them all, look again and again :D

This is just what I did and have done before, doesn't mean its right but I suffered no losses from doing this water change and have since done another 50% water change on Wednesday and will do another today and then everyday from now on.

Good luck with this spawn and fingers cross they hatch tomorrow!

water depth is alredy at 3 and one half inches deep, the spawn was done in a 1.5g tub so i will likely be doing a water change in less than a week, will have to do it carfully i suppose. i can see the lil guys moveing around inside the eggs, should hatch later today. im very excited to see how these guys are going to turn out, the father is one of teh most brilliant fish iv ever seen, and the female has a great personality, im hopeing the babys turn out the same. the father right now doesn't seem to wanna eat much and is kinda grumpy looking, guess he misses his girly, ill have to put her tub near his so he'll purk up. ill try to get some pictures eventually, with school starteing up next thursday and stuff its been hecktic :/

Woohoo!! BIG congrats, I know you're excited! :D
If the eggs are wiggling then they're due to hatch soon... I actually got to watch a fry hatch with my spawn, as I separated a few eggs into a cup as a sort of experiment... I saw one of the eggs wiggle and then the little fry popped out a few minutes later
