so my friend gave me a baby guppy waaaaay back before it had color. when he got color, he was the only one that was a 'snakeskin' and a 'tequila sunrise' guppy, all of hers were snakeskin. and so he was still little when he got his color

they are fast and hard to get pics of!

his tail started growing and more color came...

and then BOOM! he grew into this magnificent little guy.... who gets a really bold black outline and body spots when he's impressing the ladies in the tank

and of course, being a guppy, he made lovely babies with a yellow female guppy

and thus, his son was made (well one of them!) his son, like all the others got the dominant snakeskin pattern, and matured into a nice guppy

and then his next babies were from this momma. a clear tail with black dots
and now those babies are growing up. only one has a good snakeskin pattern, all the others are getting it O__o!!

his color is much more bold too

more pics when more of them mature

Wow beautiful guppies! The orange tailed one is stunning you must be so proud! Do you keep all of the fry or just the ones with the best traits?
I love waiting to see what the babies will look like.
This is the first time I have intentionally put a male in with females to produce fry.
I have an almost all black male and I have a half black female with yellow leopard spots on her tail, hoping to get black babies from them!
I also have a pale gold female who came heavily pregnant so that's a lucky dip lol I have a virgin pale gold female with electric blue stripe on her tail, and a yellow cobra female. The only male is the one in my avatar. I am hoping for some nice fry!

This is a truly fascinating post!  Wow!!  Congrats on all the success you've had!  Keep us posted, I am very, very interested in this :)

Really, really nice looking guppies! You have every reason to be proud! :) Will follow this too.

i will definitely post more pics as they grow! they are just so fast that i have to put them in cups to take pics :p

Thanks.
I can't wait for pics! That' a good idea putting them into cups!
Do you put your fry in a tank by themselves or do you leave them in your main tank? I have had about 6 batches of fry but most don't survive to adulthood. Maybe I should put them into a separate tank.

as for the cups, they are just the ones the bettas come in and i 'suction' then to the side and wait for the fish to calm down so i can take a pic

i have a 5 gal as my breeder tank and a 10 gal as a fry tank. i usually catch fry the days that they are born and put them in a breeder trap in the 5gal, then the baby tank in a breeder trap, then into the baby tank; but i have been lazy and there are 4 fry in the breeding tank. 1 of them i couldnt find and it was swimming around so i left it. the second one was from the pet store, and there are 2 smaller random ones that i left. when i clean the tank i will more then into the fry tank :)

Lovely guppies and it's very interesting following the development of the new generations.
