Growout Tanks

I use 20 gallon long (long is better than tall), and I have the spawns raised in 10 gallons. I've also got a variety of tubs and such around 20-30 gallons that I use when I run out of space. For my largest spawn, I might use a 55 gallon I have. The more space they have, the better.

Also depends how many babies you got in a tank. More room to swim is always better. You don't want to put one dozen of one month old frys into a 20 gallon tank. LOL :D

I was wondering since we probably will only put in 5-6" of water in the tank, it may be better to talk surface area rather than gallons.

Ral! what 5" or 6" water? Breeding huh? LOL  We are talking about raising the babies and not breeding. LOL Of course fill up the water level close to the top. LOL More room to swim. hahahaha
Of course the surface like long 20 gallon is great. Somehow depends how many babies you got. I just bought a 30 gallon tank for 37.99 and it is the same long as the 20 but taller. I want them to swim up more because of their halfmoon tail. :) I have to move most of the babies from the 20 gallon to this new one. wou wou. :) Then I can put my second batch of red halfmoon babies to the 20 gallon tank. Small babies size will go back to 10 gallon for sure. 3 empty 10 gallon for right now. Yippy. so many things to do today. LOL  OK. I am out now. :)

So you fill te grow out tanks to the top. Was asuming that the water level might be kept lower so as not to make it to hard for the betta's to reach the surface and get air.

You gradually increase the water level when you are doing your water changes over time but that increase would be done in your spawn tank not your growout

You are talking about the frys that are around one week to a month old or a little bit plus. After they learned how to used their breeding organ, then you put them in a full water level tank. :D

Thanks Sorell and yeevia. I was thinking of using 3x15G tanks to give them more surface area but a single 40G would be more convenient.
