i had a marine tank about 2 years ago and have decided to go back and also attempt to successfully breed clown fish. my tank is an interpet river reef 50 with 2 t5s and blue led's. just setting it up now getting the water to the correct temp then i will be adding salf and my coral sand. i will post pics after it is done. any hints or tips are welcome. also in the pack i got aquarium treatment filter start by interpet but i am not sure if i should use it as it only has a tropical fish on the front. also i got interpet fresh start which is a declorinator and the same again i am not sure if i should use it. can anyone tell me if it will be safe or not.
thanks

dont add sand until the live rock is in.
and is it the 94 litre version?

no i decided to go with the 50 as it was cheeper and the stand i had wouldnt fit the 94 liter version. i am going to add the sand because my room is a tip and it needs gettin out of the way. when adding live rock i will just shove it all over to one side then put it back over.

believe me you are best off puttign sand in after even if holding it back some will egt under, and if anything decides to burrow, crash...rock fall.

IMO 50 litre is to small for a pair of clowns, and if they do spawn and hatch you will need a grow out tank once thy get a bit bigger. if you do go with a pair of clowns you will not be able to keep any other fish/ inverts as they risk being bullied or killed

from going on what i have read it should be fine for a pair of clowns and a few shrimp. if i decided not to have clows what elce could go in there would a blenny be ok in there

blennies need a mature tank as they are dragonets and you would need a supply of copepods aswell. most people will tell you on here that 50 litres is way to small for a pair of clowns being kept with other things.
look at smaller gobies theyre nice fish!

if your using RO water you dont need dechlor, and your live rock is cycling your tank so some bacterial suplement is not needed...and they dont work anyway

using tap water do you think i should plop a bit of decloranator in and some flakes to get the cycle on the move before tomorrow when i get my live rock

Just use some dechlorinator and let it all get swirling around.

you can speed it up if you put some mature filter sponge in cant you.

Only if it's from a MARINE system... Freshwater bacteria are NOT the same as Saltwater ones, so sticking a mature freshwater sponge filter in a marine tank would be useless as all the bacteria would die in the high salt content water :)

yes i know haha could you imagine. thanks for the heads up. i should be getting some live rock today after college. my tank is looking great and there is nothing in there apart from coral sand haha. i wil keep you posted with pics after i get my live rock in
